Milliman’s Chicago-Milwaukee Property and Casualty practice develops innovative products and provides actuarial consulting services. Milliman Datalytics-Defense® is an e-billing solution that was designed and built by seasoned actuaries exclusively for the analytical needs of insurance companies. It provides a platform for the submission of defense attorney invoices and facilitates the review and payment of those invoices. Datalytics provides a dynamic workflow that allows for the escalation of certain processes, as well as an auditing feature with completely configurable business rules. Detailed data is collected, organized, and presented to our clients to help manage their defense firms by providing peer-to-peer comparisons and predictive analytics.
What You Will Do
We are looking for a Senior Front-End Engineer who is expert in developing web-based solutions from start to finish. Leveraging their deep expertise in front-end technologies, the Senior Front-End Engineer will design, develop and implement UI solutions, drive engineering excellence and best practices for Datalytics. Our ideal hire for this position is a person with strong analytical capabilities and the ability to create innovative solutions, balancing creative engineering with quality and unwavering focus on the customer. The Senior Front-End Engineer’s skill set will complement a robust team of architects and developers, working in an Agile environment.
Responsibilities in this role will include:
- Design, build, debug, release, and maintain the front-end stack for web apps.
- Collaborate with product managers and other software engineers to deliver compelling user-facing products.
- Architect efficient and reusable front-end systems that drive complex web applications.
- Ensure high quality software by conducting code reviews, implementing automated tests, and monitoring live systems.
- Mentor other software engineers to drive engineering excellence and best practices.
- Document software programs with flowcharts, layouts, charts, diagrams, and other documentation.
- Learn about developments in the field to stay on top of the latest advancements.
- Work cross-functionally with other teams to define software requirements by analyzing the needs of users.
- Meet with security experts to evaluate and improve the security of our applications.
Professional Qualifications
- 7+ years of HTML + CSS coding experience, including responsive layout, specificity, cross-browser compatibility, and accessibility.
- 5+ years of experience with JavaScript, including concepts such as asynchronous programming, closures, types/modules, etc.
- 3+ years of experience with browser APIs and optimizing front-end performance.
- 2+ years of experience with TypeScript.
- 5+ years of experience with any front-end JavaScript framework such as React, Vue.js, Angular, Knockout (preferred), Svelte (preferred), etc.
Personal Qualifications
- Excellent track record of on-time product delivery.
- Able to prioritize multiple concurrent projects and deliverables with interdependencies.
- Strong communication skills, both verbal (one-on-one, in front of groups) and in writing (email, messaging, deliverables, documentation).
- Customer service orientation, prompt follow-up on internal and external customer issues.
- Foster a positive teamwork atmosphere among co-workers.
- Productive whether working in an office or remotely, across all U.S. time zones.
Preferred (Not Required)
- Completed bachelor's degree in computer science or related field.
- Experience in the insurance industry.
- Experience with backend .NET languages such as C#.
- Experience with public cloud platforms such as Azure.
Location
This is a remote position, based in the U.S. Candidates hired into this role may work onsite in select Milliman office locations, if they prefer.
Compensation
The salary range is $109,000 to $248,000 depending on a combination of factors, including but not limited to education, relevant work experience, qualifications, skills, certifications, location, etc. If the overall years of related professional experience is between 5 and 10 years, the salary range is $109,000 to $222,000; if the overall years of related professional experience is between 10 and 15 years, the salary range is $122,000 to $248,000.
