The Business Services Directorate (BSD) provides high-quality business services to support the Lab's research initiatives by participating in cross-functional teams with a focus on risk mitigation and cost management, which is a critical component to the Lab's success. Led by the Chief Financial Officer, Brookhaven’s Business Services Directorate includes the Budget Office, Fiscal Services Division, Procurement & Property Management Division, Chief Financial Office, and the Business Operations Offices. The Directorate manages a broad range of financial activities, including the planning and implementation of the Lab’s fiscal matters and its approximately $700 million annual budget.

The function of the Fiscal Services Division (FSD) is to support the mission critical research of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). FSD provides Payroll, Accounts Payable, General Accounting, Financial Reporting and Travel Services support to the Laboratory. The open position is an Accounts Payable position in the General Accounting area of the Division. The Accounts Payable (Senior Fiscal Assistant) position reports to the General Accounting Manager and will be given a wide range of accounting related tasks.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Provide superior customer service skills by being responsive to customer’s requests which include vendor and departmental inquiries.

  • Support the Account Payable function – ensuring that invoices are entered, checks are run timely and accurately, and working with the departments where necessary.

  • Responsible for performing a variety of specialized, complex duties within an assigned fiscal functional area.

  • Works independently within established procedures and is required to handle non-routine office matters on a daily basis.

  • Has a wide variety of contacts within and outside the Laboratory.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • HS Diploma plus six (6) years of relevant and substantive experience. An associates degree and four (4) years of relevant experience or bachelor’s degree with coursework, or training, specifically related to the position requirements may offset qualifying experience of 2:1 (experience: college) years.

  • Ability to learn new things and be able to multi-task.

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work within tight time constraints.

  • Clear and concise written and verbal communication skills.

  • Detail oriented.

  • Ability to work on a team, and someone who wants to grow within the organization.
