We help clients achieve compliance with the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) through the preparation of or review of Environmental Impact Statements (EISs) and Environmental Assessments (EAs) for projects nationwide. To support our growth, ICF is seeking an on-call Senior Environmental Planner to work remotely within the Eastern United States. This position will support clients’ NEPA compliance for energy (including renewable energy, advanced energy technology related to vehicle projects, CO2 pipelines, transmission). This is an on-call hourly position.
About On-Call Employment with ICF:
Given the project-specific nature of our environmental work, ICF often hires environmental professionals as “On-Call” employees. On-Call employees are scheduled for work hours as they become available, and each on-call employee is free to accept or refuse the hours assigned to them in a given week. On-Call employees may work concurrent projects outside of their ICF assignment (along as their outside work does not create a conflict of interest with the work they do for ICF). The pay range listed for this position is required to be provided in a salaried format, but your work would be paid on an hourly basis.
What you will be doing:
- Serving as a lead reviewer for NEPA projects:
- Interacting with applicants and agency staff
- Helping agency staff manage the preparation of EAs and EISs (which are usually prepared by the applicant’s contractor.
- Reviewing NEPA documents prepared by the applicant’s contractor
- Reviewing environmental components of applications
- Participating in the Project Management team for energy or transportation projects:
- Act as PM on EAs or DPM on EISs
- Serving as a liaison to direct technical staff on project teams
- Coordinating project deliverables with document production staff
- Monitoring project scopes, schedules, and budgets
- Organizing and facilitating meetings (such as preparing agendas, developing and presenting meeting content, and preparing summaries)
- Communicating with clients, stakeholders, and agency staff
What you need to have (Minimum Qualifications):
- Master’s Degree in Natural or Physical Science, Public Policy, Economics, Environmental Management or related subjects with 5+ years professional experience in preparing and/or reviewing NEPA documents
OR
- Bachelor’s Degree in Natural or Physical Science, Public Policy, Economics, Environmental Management or related subjects with 7+ years professional experience in preparing and/or reviewing NEPA documents
What we would like you to have (Preferred Qualifications):
- Experience leading or supporting project management teams
- Experience with developing and maintaining project schedules and budgets
- Experience interfacing with clients and internal and external stakeholders
Professional skills you will use:
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including ability to prioritize and multi-task under strict deadlines
- Strong problem-solving skills and demonstrated ability to succeed with new and challenging tasks
- Setting challenging, measurable and sustainable goals in collaboration with manager(s)
- Identifying and meeting the needs of clients within established guidelines
- Working collaboratively with project team and client to achieve established goals

Pay Range - There are multiple factors that are considered in determining final pay for a position, including, but not limited to, relevant work experience, skills, certifications and competencies that align to the specified role, geographic location, education and certifications as well as contract provisions regarding labor categories that are specific to the position.
The pay range for this position based on full-time employment is:
