Your role at Sephora:

As a Senior Engineer, you will design and develop large scale enterprise solutions suited for one of the best considered Ecommerce Platform in retail industry. Reporting to the Senior Manager, eCommerce Engineering, you will work closely with extremely talented peers, engineers and leads from cross functional teams, enterprise architects and product managers to evaluate and understand requirements, identify gaps and come up with best ways to achieve the solution. This is a hands-on technical role which demand strong engineering capability with an eye on performance, scalability and quality and must be able to demonstrate all this in day to day working. Responsibilities:

  • Develop and design Java microservices for high availability eCommerce platform components systems using Object-Oriented design principles, data structures, algorithms, DBMS/SQL, and Software Engineering practices
  • Collaborate with the engineers and leads from cross functional teams to drive key design decisions and ensure the development of application components for enterprise projects.
  • Know the latest industry trends and evaluate new technologies for appropriateness of applications.
  • Ensure platform components have a clear separation of concerns and are designed for reliability or easy scaling. Participate and provide feedback for load and performance testing. Define and implement logging, monitoring and alerting framework for critical metrics at various levels.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to the engineers in the team in following the best practices in microservices implementation and assist in troubleshooting issues across the eCommerce application stack to support operational issues and system production issues impacting business.

  • Influence decisions, provide input, build consensus, and resolve conflicts constructively and proactively.

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • 6 + years of hands-on experience in developing and delivering enterprise solutions using Java/J2EE, Spring, Spring Boot frameworks, JBoss and other web related technologies
  • 6 + years first-hand experience in designing, deploying and managing Java micro services and RESTful APIs in eCommerce or Client services application

  • 4 + years strong hands-on experience in designing and deploying cloud-based applications using micro services architecture and best practices preferably on MS Azure cloud platform

  • 4 + years prior experience in decomposing monolith application into micro services and deployed them in highly available, scalable and fault tolerant setup on cloud platforms

  • Prior experience in designing and developing integrations from the eCommerce platform to enterprise services for Inventory, Tax, Promotions, Payments etc.

  • Hands-on experience with queueing and streaming solutions such as Kafka, JMS, Coherence, etc

  • Ability to identify performance bottlenecks and use good coding standards and design patterns to avoid them in the first place

  • Working experience with CI/CD pipelines, building regression-able code using GitHub, Jenkins and other dev ops related tools & applications

  • Extensive knowledge of:

    • Java/J2EE, Spring, Spring Boot frameworks, JBoss

    • Java micro services and RESTful APIs

    • Azure cloud platform

    • Monolith decomposition to microservices

    • Kubernetes Container Orchestration, Istio service mesh,

    • MS SQL, MySQL, NoSQL Postgres, Redis

    • GitHub, Jenkins

  • Extensive knowledge and proven experience with existing Digital, E-Commerce and Web technologies and tools (E-Commerce Platforms, Digital Marketing Tools, Order Management Systems)
  • Good knowledge on
    • Foundational understanding of how internet and web works
    • object oriented programing
    • RDBMS and modern NoSQL database designs and querying languages
    • Microservices and REST services
    • Expertise in the E-Commerce, Digital domains and related technologies
    • Good knowledge/Exposure on Digital Marketing tools and technologies

The annual base salary range for this position is $132,210.00 - $163,200.00 The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job.  Individuals employed in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.  Sephora offers a generous benefits package to full-time employees, which includes comprehensive health, dental and vision plans; a superior 401(k) plan, various paid time off programs; employee discount/perks; life insurance; disability insurance; flexible spending accounts; and an employee referral bonus program.
