About this role
As a Senior Energy Engineer at NORESCO, you will lead the technical development of projects or specific energy conservation measures in support of large complex projects. You will collaborate and interact with customers as well as other NORESCO staff including Senior Project Engineers, Sales, Project Developers, Design Engineers, Construction Managers and Measurement and Verification (M&V). You will also be representing NORESCO at customer sites visits and conference calls as part of the engineering team. You must have a thorough and advanced understanding of technologies and technical solutions, development processes of ESPC and UESC contracts and federal customer expectations, requirements and standards. Must possess a strong technical background with excellent communication and technical writing skills.
Key Responsibilities
Support the technical team during all phases of project development including overall responsibility in conducting energy audits, site investigations, ECM scope development, energy savings calculations, and developing cost estimates for large federal, commercial and institutional facilities. Work within the engineering team to improve processes and procedures.
- Conduct energy audits, site investigations, energy savings calculations and develop cost estimates to Identify and quantify energy conservation opportunities associated with a variety of technologies and solutions.
- Coordinate and schedule site visits with customers and NORESCO personnel.
- Complete energy calculations using whole-building modeling and temperature- bin analysis methods to calculate energy savings associated with ECM upgrades.
- Analyze utility bill data to determine customer energy performance parameters.
- Analyze customer operational costs to develop operational savings models associated with proposed technical solutions.
- Write detailed Energy Conservation Measure descriptions to be included in proposal submissions as well as scopes of work for subcontractors.
- Support improvement of processes and tools for development and analysis of technologies and offerings.
- Support technical discussions of scope, savings, and M&V methods during Customer and Senior Management review calls.
- Support the development of measurement and verification plans with M&V team.
- Mentor and support training of lower-level engineering staff.
- Work cross functionally with Sales, Project Developers, Design Engineers, Construction Managers, Operations and Maintenance (O&M) and Measurement and Verification (M&V) during the project lifecycle and support functional improvements.
- Travel up to 40%
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s in Engineering
- 7+ years’ experience working in the Energy or Sustainability Services industry
- OR –
- Master’s Degree in Engineering
- 5+ years’ experience working in the Energy or Sustainability Services industry
Preferred Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Architectural Engineering
- MBA, PE, and CEM are not required, but are considered a plus
- Experience using building energy modeling software
- Demonstrated collaboration skills and working within a team environment
- Proven track record developing technical solutions and projects
- Advanced technical abilities to understand and analyze a wide variety technical solutions
- Strong organizational, technical writing and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
- Proficiency in MS Office including Word, and Excel

Pay Range:
