Hybrid flexible are roles that can be performed remotely but require some level of onsite work/in-person interactions on a regular basis, require employees to live within a commutable distance and, since business needs vary by position and may change over time, managers will set expectations and flexibility regarding where and when work is performed.

Fully remote are roles that can be performed remotely, require employees to live in approved states and will have purpose-driven in-person interactions on occasion.

Job Summary

This is a second level supervisory position in the Inside Plant Projects and Construction (IP C&M) – Metropolitan Substation Department – Relay.

Job Responsibilities

  • The successful candidate will be responsible and fully accountable for the supervision of assigned personnel in the maintenance, construction and testing, of associated Transmission and Distribution relay equipment in Switching Stations and Substations.
  • Responsible for ensuring that daily objectives are successfully achieved safely, environmentally compliant and within expectations of the Company.
  • Provide training and instruction to personnel in work practices and use of tools and equipment.
  • Assist in tracking the training and development of personnel.
  • Assist in the identification and recognition of unusual, unsafe or inappropriate work conditions and take necessary corrective action.
  • Promote safety principles.
  • Counsel associates, as required, and handle first step grievance meetings.
  • Assign and direct work to accomplish the desired results in a safe, efficient and expeditious manner.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills in successfully managing the team of both MAST and bargaining unit associates.
  • Maintain effective working relationships while interfacing with other groups in the Division as well as Asset Management & Planning and other P&C associates.
  • Accept supervisory on-call responsibilities and overtime assignments.
  • Support project management in providing manpower estimates, forecasts, and work schedules as needed to achieve project milestones.
  • Provide support of work activities and response to emergencies during and outside of normal working hours, including response to system and weather events within and outside of PSE&G territory, as needed.

Job Specific Qualifications

Required Skills:

  • Must have taken and obtained an acceptable score on the First Line Supervisor's Test (FLST) unless presently directly and supervising (i.e. responsible for performance review) represented associates for a minimum of 12 continuous months to be eligible to apply.
  • High school graduate or GED.
  • A minimum of three (3) years of previous experience as a first level supervisor.
  • A minimum of six (6) years of experience in the construction, maintenance and testing of relay equipment in Switching Stations and Substations.
  • Extensive experience and knowledge of the applicable portions of Company / Union Agreement, MCD Agreement and bargaining unit workforce, including knowledge of Positive Discipline process and Mutual Gains Bargaining.
  • Ability to read and understand schematics, wiring, and 1-line diagrams
  • General knowledge of basic computer applications, i.e., Microsoft Office Suite
  • As the job requires driving to Company locations and off-site assignments and events, must possess a valid U.S. driver’s license with a safe and satisfactory driving history.

Desirable:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering.
  • Extensive knowledge of relay and control circuits design and functionality.
  • Ability to assist with troubleshooting, identifying and analyzing abnormal equipment and system operations.
  • Ability to read and understand control prints and how specific relay schemes operate.
