Title: International Communications Senior Director

Location: Remote Global role.

Working pattern: Remote with at least 50% travel to priority affiliate.

Responsibilities

The Senior Director - International Communications is a strategic leadership role, responsible for developing and executing comprehensive communication strategies to enhance and protect the company's brand and reputation in line with our business objectives.

This role is focused on refreshing and delivering a communications strategy for priority affiliate(s) as the strategic communications leader, working in partnership with the Corporate Affairs leader and General Manager, reporting to IBU Communications and leading a team in-country.   Then Senior Director Communications is accountable for corporate, therapy area and internal communications; alongside capability development to ensure consistent, impactful, compliant and coordinated execution.

Responsibilities:

Corporate Communications:

  • Design and deliver a holistic corporate communications strategy for the priority affiliate to enhance and protect Lilly’s brand, aligned to Lilly’s business goals and future launches.  
  • Serve as a company spokesperson in the affiliate, and lead relationships with key external stakeholders (media, government, industry association, etc.)
  • Lead the planning and execution of high-profile corporate events, announcements, and potential crisis communications
  • Craft compelling narratives and messaging to elevate the company's brand, reputation, and thought leadership
  • Horizon scanning on future opportunities, reputation and issues management to ensure preparedness and manage possible negative issues in the media.

Product Communications:

  • Develop creative communication campaigns that leverage global strategies to enhance Lilly’s brand presence with key stakeholders and improve innovation readiness for future product launches.
  • Maximize earned media opportunities across IBU for data and regulatory milestones
  • Partner with business unit and medical teams to develop strategic communication plans for therapy areas, product launches, patient advocacy in support of priority products and future launches.
  • Oversee the creation of product-related content (press releases, treatment guides, web content, fact sheets, multimedia assets etc.) to ensure consistent, compliant messaging
  • Manage the company's presence at industry conferences and events

Internal Communications:

  • Develop and implement an integrated internal communications strategy to foster a positive, engaged, and informed employee culture
  • Oversee the creation and distribution of employee-facing content (newsletters, intranet, town halls, etc.)
  • Act as key business partner for the affiliate lead team to advance key projects, including change management and talent development and issues management.

Leadership and Execution:

  • Serve as primary communications counsel for affiliate leadership team and internal business partners.
  • Accountable for design and delivery of communications, with close alignment to IBU and global communications strategies, adapted for maximum impact at affiliate level
  • Build and maintain a network across global and international comms teams to facilitate learning, best practice sharing, and global to local execution.
  • Lead a high-performing team of communication professionals
  • Drive affiliate capability development in communications through process improvement, effective coaching and facilitating continuous learning
  • Ensure all activities and campaigns are delivered in compliance with Lilly policies and procedures and external regulations, with clear processes, KPIs, and governance to drive efficiency and accountability.
  • Foster a collaborative, cross-functional approach to communication strategies
  • Continuously evaluate and optimize the communication team to align with evolving business priorities
  • Oversight of third parties.  

Key Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, Journalism, Public Relations, or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in corporate communications, public relations, or a related field, with at least 5 years in a senior leadership role
  • Proven track record of developing and executing successful communication strategies across diverse channels and stakeholders.
  • Robust experience of managing traditional and social media, including press releases, reactive handling, and issue management; alongside media relations, including interacting with A-list media and serving as a spokesperson. 
  • Demonstrable senior experience of leading design and delivery of multi-country communications campaigns and media handling experience (eg in prior journalism, public relations, other communications roles, etc.)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to tailor messaging to various audiences.
  • Strong leadership and team-building abilities, with a demonstrated track record of managing high-performing communication teams
  • Familiarity with digital communication tools and platforms, including social media, content management systems, and data analytics.
  • Strategic mindset with the ability to align communication initiatives with broader business objectives.
  • Strong problem-solving and decision-making skills, with the ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
  • Collaborative and cross-functional approach, with the ability to work effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization

Basic Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant discipline, for example, Communications, Public Relations, Journalism or Literature.
  • Qualified candidates must be legally authorized to be employed in the United States. Lilly does not anticipate providing sponsorship for employment visa status (e.g., H-1B or TN status) for this employment position.

Additional Information:

Lilly currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $144,000 to $211,000 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. This position also will be eligible for a company bonus(depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored retirement plan and 401(k); vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent daycare flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above.
