The Opportunity:
Caraway is seeking a Senior Director of eCommerce to lead and innovate our entire digital ecosystem. This pivotal leadership role will own our eCommerce strategy, manage the digital product roadmap looking out over a multi-year horizon, oversee product management, development and UI/UX design. Your mission: drive revenue per session (RPS) by owning and optimizing every digital touchpoint—from the moment a customer lands on our site to their repeat purchase journey. 

You’ll spearhead the digital roadmap, managing our Shopify instance acting as a digital enabler for cross-functional teams. A key focus will be optimizing customer journeys that promote all Caraway product lines, ensuring customers can discover the right products while gaining exposure to our full portfolio. You’ll also play a crucial role in enhancing digital merchandising to build average order value (AOV) and drive up conversion rates (CVR). You’ll be one of the key leaders on GTM, helping to craft the perfect digital experience to introduce new categories to new to file & returning customers in partnership with growth, brand, product, finance, creative, ops & more.

This role is perfect for someone who sees the big picture but loves diving into the details. You’ll lead the creation of a robust digital content hub, offering customers a destination to explore our brand deeply—learning about our products, design processes, community stories, and more. You’ll also own the development of onsite customer accounts, transforming them into essential resources where customers can access important information and stay connected with Caraway long after their initial purchase.

Who You Are:
As a digital powerhouse, you bring a proven track record of leading eCommerce, digital product management, UI/UX, and development teams for high-growth consumer brands. You excel at collaborating with cross-functional teams on go-to-market strategies for new product launches, thoughtfully integrating these offerings into existing digital touchpoints for both new and existing customers. With a customer-focused and data-driven approach, you specialize in optimizing digital journeys to drive average order value (AOV), conversion rate (CVR), and revenue per session (RPS). You are proficient in Shopify and well-versed in backend systems and applications, you are committed to delivering best-in-class digital experiences. Your expertise extends to headless commerce and technical stacks, ensuring that Caraway remains at the forefront of industry innovations. You are passionate about brand storytelling and adept at using digital touchpoints to convey mission-driven narratives that truly resonate. Your exceptional skills in digital merchandising strategies enhance site metrics and overall performance, and you thrive in both strategic planning and hands-on execution. You thrive in collaborative environments, working effectively across growth, marketing, operations, finance, and creative teams.

Responsibilities:

Leadership, Team Management & Coaching

  • Lead and mentor product management, development, and UI/UX teams, fostering a culture of high performance and innovation.
  • Champion a customer-first, digital-first mindset across the organization.
  • Build and maintain a high-performing team that delivers exceptional digital experiences and measurable business outcomes.

eCommerce Strategy & Digital Roadmap Ownership

  • Own Caraway’s eCommerce strategy and digital roadmap, ensuring alignment with growth, brand, and international expansion goals.
  • Launch new features and conversion rate optimization (CRO) tests designed to enhance key metrics (AOV, CVR, RPS).
  • Manage and optimize Shopify and headless commerce solutions, ensuring a seamless customer journey and scalable infrastructure.

Customer Journeys, Merchandising & Content Strategy

  • Optimize paths to purchase and onsite journeys to promote all product lines, ensuring customers find the right products while gaining exposure to the full portfolio.
  • Lead digital merchandising initiatives that improve site performance metrics and drive revenue.
  • Develop a comprehensive digital content hub that engages customers with product education, design inspiration, community stories, and more.

International Expansion & B2B Marketplaces

  • Drive international digital expansion by creating localized site experiences and aligning logistics, growth marketing, retention & other functions to provide a seamless global shopping experience
  • Identify and scale B2B marketplace opportunities, expanding Caraway’s reach and revenue streams in partnership with other teams

Technical Stack & Cross-Functional Collaboration

  • Own Caraway’s technical stack, continuously optimizing it to ensure industry-leading performance and innovation.
  • Own vendor relations, contract negotiations, app demos & more to keep us ahead of the curve and paying fair prices that fit within your team’s stated cost targets

Measurement & Analytics

  • Own and optimize key KPIs (RPS, AOV, CVR) using data-driven insights to guide digital strategies.
  • Build robust analytics frameworks that provide visibility into digital performance, informing strategic decision-making.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • 10+ years of experience in eCommerce, digital product, or related fields, including 5+ years leading digital teams.
  • Deep Shopify expertise, with working knowledge of headless stacks and supporting applications.
  • Strong understanding of UI/UX design principles, digital merchandising, and customer journey optimization.
  • Proven success in creating digital content hubs and optimizing customer account ecosystems.
  • Experienced in international expansion, B2B marketplace development, and multi-currency Shopify setups.
  • Analytical, highly proficient in leveraging data for decision-making and performance optimization.
  • Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with a talent for cross-functional collaboration

The anticipated base salary range for this role ​is $190,000 - $225,000 - Final compensation will depend on a variety of factors determining the base pay at offer, including but not limited to: skills, qualifications, experience. This range provides the opportunity to progress as you grow and develop within a role.
