Senior Designer (Open to Remote)

The Corporate Bookmaking team is seeking a Senior Designer to join their interior book design team that supports Random House Publishing Group. This position offers an opportunity for growth and to apply your design interests and skills in a busy, creative, and collaborative environment. The Senior Designer creates original designs for fiction, nonfiction, and series titles across the Random House Group imprints. The Senior Designer will also interface with our Editorial, Production, Production Editorial, and Managing Editorial teams as well as freelancers.
Founded in 1925, Random House Publishing Group is the proud publishing house of many of the world’s most acclaimed storytellers, thought leaders, and innovators. Our host of imprints publish a diverse range of 1-, 2-, and 4-color fiction and nonfiction, including literary, thriller, romance, science fiction, fantasy, speculative, history, wellness, cooking, spirituality, politics, and entertainment.
Specific responsibilities include:
- Manages all aspects of interior 1-color and some illustrated and 4-color book design, including editor and author consultation, complete interior design, and all follow-through to bound book.
- Creates rough first pass and reviews subsequent passes.
- Hires illustrators and mapmakers, negotiates contracts, and oversees freelance projects as needed.
Please apply if you meet the following qualifications:
- Must have a minimum of 8 years of experience in 1-color print book publishing and some experience in illustrated and 4-color print publishing, including hiring illustrators, negotiating contracts, and managing freelancers
- Mastery of Adobe InDesign in Mac OS
- Mastery of typography and the printing process
- Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator, and Acrobat
- Great interpersonal and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, timely and efficient follow-up skills
- Able to work collaboratively and cross-departmentally
- Able to work well under pressure and meet demanding deadlines
- Able to manage multiple projects at once
- Organized, creative and flexible
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Outlook
- Familiarity with manuscript tagging or HTML is a plus
The salary for this position is $73,500.00. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to company results.
