Our National Medicaid Financing Practice (NMF) works with clients such as states, counties, health systems, safety net hospitals, academic medical centers, physicians, nursing facilities and medical schools navigate the opportunities to strengthen their Medicaid business through the conception, creation and implementation of programs designed to increase Medicaid reimbursement and leverage their unique capacities to deliver on the quality and value propositions growing in Medicaid. About the Role
Sellers Dorsey is seeking a Senior Consultant (Policy & Innovation) who will primarily engage in and support policy research and analysis regarding Medicaid financing and compiling market intelligence on financing initiatives nationally. This will include review and analysis of federal and state regulations and other documents, synthesis of available information on a variety of Medicaid finance topics, and staffing and managing standing or ad hoc workgroups. This position may also provide direct client consulting services including managing and tracking all aspects of the client’s project, internal facilitation of the team, objective advice, expertise and specialized skills in the areas of Medicaid financing, policy, strategy and management. The position will support one or more Project Directors in delivering consulting services leveraging policy and/or financial expertise in areas such as Medicaid financing and revenue maximization, provider reimbursement, long-term services and supports (LTSS), healthcare IT, Medicaid managed care, and business development. The Senior Consultant will be responsible for creating, fostering and tracking conversations that create solutions and deliverables for internal and external clients, tracking and communicating next steps and follow-up items to internal and external audiences, delivery of client and internal projects, navigating client relationships, project management, client satisfaction and new business activities, including proposal development responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor the health care landscape nationally and in states of interest to bring developing issues and concerns to the attention of the Firm.
- Conduct targeted policy analyses of issues as they arise such as federal regulations and guidance, implementation of state Medicaid programs, and other trends in the area of Medicaid finance.
- Leverage policy and/or healthcare solution expertise to help Directors and Managing Directors develop, document and communicate new solutions.
- Perform assigned and agreed upon project tasks maintaining client satisfaction through proactive project management; takes ownership of work and produces “client-ready” deliverables with minimal supervision.
- Deliver subject matter expertise, consulting and strategic services on multiple projects, clients and engagements; manage assigned primary research and/or solution development; assist with proposal development, project plan development, data analysis, presentation development, and delivery of client presentations.
- In the absence of, or as assigned by, a Director or Managing Director, may serve as a key client contact to respond to questions, provide required communications and be responsible for a successful client engagement.
- Use personal industry knowledge, connections, business expertise, public policy awareness and political insight to identify leads that could result in profitable revenue growth for the Firm.
Key Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Health, or Health Administration is required. Advanced degree in Public Policy, Public Administration, Public Health, Health Administration, business, economics or MBA preferred (or additional relevant experience in lieu of such advanced degree).
- 7 or more combined years in a public healthcare policy or project management role and/or in the healthcare consulting industry.
- 7 or more years of progressively responsible work experience in health or human services policy research, consulting, or project management, or 5+ years of post-graduate, progressively responsible work experience in consulting or operational experience in health care and/or health policy research/analysis is required.
- Experience with Medicaid preferred. Relevant experience in the federal, state or private health insurance plan industry sector strongly desired.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Share Point.
Other Requirements
- Excellent oral and written communication skills including relaying complex technical terms in an easy to understand manner.
- Ability to interact professionally with clients and other outside audiences.
- Experience organizing and coordinating the work of others.
- Professional writing experience highly desirable.
- Previous project/task management experience strongly desired; attention to detail, a must.
- The ability to work independently and in teams.
- Experience delivering services on several projects simultaneously.
- Time management skills.
Compensation & Benefits
The anticipated salary range for candidates is $87,100/year in our lowest geographic market range to up to $119,800/year in our highest geographic market range. The final pay offered to a successful candidate will be dependent on several factors that may include but are not limited to the type and years of experience within the job, the type of years and experience within the industry, the candidate’s education, and the candidate’s market location. Typically, candidates are not hired near the top of the range and compensation decisions are made based upon Sellers Dorsey’s Total Compensation Policies & Guidelines. The successful candidate will also be eligible to participate in our annual Corporate Incentive Plan (CIP) that can range to up to 9% of annual salary.
Provided they meet all eligibility requirements under the applicable plan documents, the successful candidate (and their eligible dependents) will be eligible to enroll in group healthcare plans that offer medical, dental, and vision and for insurance plans offering short term disability, long term disability, and basic life. Employees are also able to enroll in Sellers Dorsey’s 401k plan provided they meet plan requirements. Sellers Dorsey offers a Flexible Time Off that allows employees to use what they need. Additionally, we offer 10 paid holidays throughout the calendar year, paid time off for qualifying medical leave, and up to 12 weeks of combined paid parental and bonding leave.
