Are you ready to be part of a dynamic team working on high-profile projects in the AEC industry? Our growing Hartford office has an opening for a Senior Construction Inspector. The ideal candidate must be a driven, enthusiastic, organized, detail-oriented manager/engineer ready to move to the next stage of their career. This position will play a large part in strengthening our service to an expanding New England client base by providing a key role in the development of projects, while overseeing and mentoring younger staff. Collaboration within and between multiple disciplines in the company is a requisite key to our collective success.


Our Chief Construction Inspector helps by bringing designs to life, acting as onsite facilitators and liaisons with not only our clients, but with the contractors as well. We do this by applying our proven experience in the construction industry, issuing knowledgeable real-time interpretations of the plans and specifications, providing compliance oversight to ensure quality results, recording the necessary reports and documentation as related to the construction, and resolving unanticipated issues that may arise during a specific project.


Responsibilities:

  • Establish and manage deliverables for quality CE&I, surveying, scheduling, and construction management services
  • Prepare project documentation/reporting
  • Coordinate field testing activities and work with other onsite subconsultants 
  • Ensure all relevant laws, building codes, and safety regulations are complied with at job sites
  • Correspond, report, and provide recommendations concerning construction issues
  • Monitor construction progress to ensure project specifications and quality standards are met
  • Maintain client relations by communicating progress, changes, and potential issues 
  • Contribute to project decisions regarding technical approach, cost, and meeting project milestone schedules
  • Work and interact with your team to solve problems and complete projects on time and on budget
  • Other duties as assigned

Preferred location is BETA’s Hartford, CT office. Candidates should have flexibility to work from our other office locations. BETA also offers a hybrid work schedule, allowing employees to request working remotely up to 2 days per week.

Requirements

Required Experience/Skills:

  • 10+ years of practical construction experience, knowledge, methods, and materials
  • Bachelor of Science Degree in Construction Management, Civil/Transportation Engineering, Architectural Building Construction
  • NICET Certification III/IV
  • Knowledge of Connecticut DOT construction practices and procedures 
  • Knowledge of heavy construction means, methods and materials 
  • A clear ability to understand/interpret design and construction documents
  • Must be independent, highly motivated self-starters
  • Strong technical aptitude with an eagerness to learn
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving skills with attention to detail
  • Able to prepare and maintain field reporting documentation
  • Proficient in Microsoft applications
  • Must be able to collect field data and measurements including but not limited to roadway, sidewalk, and utility assets; and perform asset inspections
  • Must be able to lift/move objects weighing up to 40 pounds
  • Must be able to perform field work in both hot and cold weather (rain and/or snow)
  • Must be able to stand or sit for long periods of time
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Willing to travel within New England

Preferred Experience/Skills:

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license
  • Certified Construction Manager
  • Specialty Certifications (i.e. OSHA, ACI, NETTCP, ATSSA, etc.)
