What this role is all about: 

As a Senior Cloud Analyst, you will be responsible for supporting the deployment, management, and optimization of cloud infrastructure within the organization on Azure cloud environments. This role plays a critical part in ensuring cloud environments are configured, monitored, and maintained to meet performance, security, and cost-efficiency standards. They work closely with cloud engineers, developers, and IT operations teams to analyze cloud usage, troubleshoot issues, and assist in the implementation of cloud solutions that align with organizational needs. This position requires a blend of high-level technical skills and analytical abilities, enabling the monitoring and optimization of cloud resources, providing insights into cloud usage, and assisting with compliance and security standards in cloud environments. 

This role is open to remote working arrangements within British Columbia. 

What you’ll do: 

Cloud Infrastructure Management 

  • Manage and maintain provisioning, testing configuration and manage cloud resources, ensuring they align with best practices and organizational standards. 
  • Develop cloud deployments, including virtual machines, storage, databases and networking configurations of the Azure platforms. 
  • Inspect the performance and health of cloud resources, addressing issues or escalating as necessary to ensure uptime and performance SLAs.  

Cloud Usage Analysis and Cost Optimization 

  • Oversee cloud usage patterns and spending, providing regular reports and insights to IT leadership. 
  • Identify cost-saving opportunities by optimizing cloud resource usage, eliminating underutilized resources and suggesting appropriate scaling. 
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to ensure seamless integration of cloud services with existing systems and ensure cloud expenses are within budget and aligned with the organization's financial goals.  

Monitor and Incident Response 

  • Ensure monitoring and alerting systems are maintained to track cloud resource availability, performance and security.
  • Oversee the deployment of alerts and incidents related to cloud infrastructure, performing initial diagnostics and coordinating with cloud analysts for resolution. 
  • Conduct root cause analysis for cloud-related incidents and contribute to incident response planning to improve response times.  

Security and Compliance Support 

  • Safeguard and ensure security best practices, including identity and access management (IAM), encryption and data protection. 
  • Ensure compliance with relevant industry regulations within cloud environments by adhering to security and compliance standards. 
  • Perform routine security audits and assist with vulnerability assessments to identify and address potential security risks.  

Automation and Scripting 

  • Use advanced scripting (e.g., Python, PowerShell) and automation tools (e.g., Terraform) to automate repetitive cloud tasks and improve operational efficiency. 
  • Develop and maintain automation scripts for tasks such as cloud resource provisioning, scaling and backup management.  

Documentation and Knowledge Sharing 

  • Ensure accurate documentation for cloud configurations, processes and best practices to support ongoing maintenance and knowledge transfer. 
  • Develop and update runbooks for troubleshooting common cloud issues, incident response and routine maintenance tasks.
  • Share knowledge and provide support to other IT team members on cloud technologies and usage best practices.  

Collaboration with Cross-Functional Teams  

  • Work closely with development, security, and infrastructure teams to ensure seamless integration and operation of cloud environments. 
  • Support application teams by assisting with cloud-based deployments, ensuring compatibility with cloud infrastructure.
  • Participate in project planning and discussions to provide insights on cloud requirements, costs and deployment strategies. 

A little about your qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, a related field preferred, or equivalent work experience. 
  • 10+ years of experience in cloud operations and infrastructure management, with the ability to work independently and with limited supervision required.
  • Experience with cloud management tools, cost optimization strategies and monitoring solutions. 
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts and complex information effectively to both technical and non-technical stakeholders 
  • High-level proficiency in cloud infrastructure components, monitoring tools and cost management. 
  • Proven experience with scripting languages (e.g. PowerShell, Python) and automation tools (e.g. Terraform). 
  • Superior knowledge of network configurations, IAM, security groups and storage solutions in cloud environments. 
  • Strong detail-orientation - capable of managing multiple cloud resources and configurations with attention to detail. 
  • Takes initiative to identify optimization opportunities and anticipate potential issues in the cloud environment. 
  • Skilled collaborator - comfortable working with cross-functional teams and supporting a collaborative, knowledge-sharing culture. 
  • Strong analytical skills to interpret cloud usage data, identify trends and make optimization recommendations.
