We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Ammunition Technical Specialist (ATS) to bolster our Weapons and Ammunition Management (WAM) Capability Team. The ATS will play a pivotal role in providing technical expertise to HALO projects globally, contributing to our mission of reducing human suffering caused by armed violence.
About the Role
Reporting directly to the Head of WAM Capability, the ATS will be responsible for delivering technical support to WAM programs worldwide. This role demands a deep understanding of Physical Security and Stockpile Management (PSSM) principles and their implementation in accordance with international standards such as the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATGs), MOSAIC, and IMAS. A significant component of this position involves designing and delivering comprehensive ammunition training courses to security forces and to HALO trainers. The applicant will also be responsible for strategic mentoring with host nation lifecycle management staff. This includes the development of national ammunition and explosives inspectorate offices.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and deliver specialised ammunition training programs aligned with international best practices.
- Conduct thorough risk assessments of ammunition storage facilities, generating detailed reports and recommendations for improvement.
- Provide technical guidance to host nation security forces on ammunition segregation, disposal, and transportation.
- Provide technical impact assessments in the events of an unplanned explosion at a munitions storage site.
- Oversee the safe handling, storage, and transportation of ammunition.
- Contribute to the development of standardized PSSM training materials and operating procedures.
- Certify new ammunition storage facilities constructed by HALO.
- Assess, segregate, and dispose of ammunition stockpiles in accordance with safety protocols.
- Offer technical mentorship and support to host nation security forces.
- Development of national ammunition and explosives inspectorate offices.
Requirements
- Proven track record as an Ammunition Technical Officer, Technician, or Specialist with at least 10 years of experience in ammunition lifecycle management. Equivalent to IATG Level 5 Inspector Explosives.
- In-depth knowledge and application of the International Ammunition Technical Guidelines (IATGs) in challenging environments.
- Strong understanding of ammunition storage and handling procedures.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills to build effective relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Proven analytical and problem-solving abilities to address complex challenges.
- Advanced IT proficiency.
- Fluency in English (minimum B2 CEFR).
- IMAS (+) Level 3 Explosive Ordnance Disposal, experience in harsh and remote environments, knowledge of Small Arms Light Weapons disposal, and previous work with host nation military/police forces.
