The Senior Accounts Payable Accountant will be responsible for handling daily accounts payable operations, including invoice coding, payment processing, and controls. This position also supports the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes. They will play a key part in identifying inefficiencies, implementing operational improvements, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure desired outcomes. This role thrives in a collaborative environment and will be critical to the overall success of the department. Excellent customer service and a high sense of urgency when assisting various stakeholders are key attributes that will contribute to success in this capacity. The Senior Accountant will also be expected to support activities in tax filings, audits, fixed assets, and compliance reporting. This position reports to the Senior Accounts Payable Manager.

What You Will Do

  • Responsible for executing day-to-day AP tasks, as well as assisting in process change across the department and across the end-to-end process, by collaborating and influencing cross-functionally.
  • Monitor and manage the daily AP workflow to ensure invoices are processed timely and accurately.
  • Troubleshoot and research accounts payable-related questions and any complex issues, ensuring prompt and effective resolution. Provide recommendations for improvements to prevent future challenges.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Accounts Payable Manager and internal team to address and resolve issues effectively.
  • Deliver exceptional customer service, taking ownership and responsibility for handling inquiries in a timely manner.
  • Assist in maintaining accurate fixed asset and prepaid expense schedules and properly depreciate/amortize costs.
  • Analyze the AP account balances and accrual transactions and other related accounts providing variance analysis summaries for month-over-month or year-over-year fluctuations.
  • Support the month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes for accurate and timely issuance of financial statements.
  • Assist with annual audits, tax schedules, U.S. state, city, and local tax compliance filings, and special projects as needed.
  • Ensure proper coding and classification of expenses, ensuring accuracy in both the AP and General Ledger
  • Apply problem-solving skills in finding solutions to accounts payable related accounting issues
  • Document and update accounts payable accounting policies and procedures to comply with GAAP principles
  • Handle ad-hoc projects and tasks as assigned by the Senior Accounts Payable Manager or the Corporate Accounting Team Lead.
  • Contribute to infrastructure development projects for systems such as Oracle and others.

What You Will Need

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance preferred
  • Minimum of 3 – 5+ years of accounts payable experience and/or relevant corporate accounting experience in the month-end close process in medium to large companies
  • Robust knowledge of AP accrual, general ledger, and balance sheet reconciliation process
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a complex and changing environment to solve multifaceted problems cross-functionally
  • Self-starter and highly organized with strong time management skills including the capacity to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with the competence to work effectively in virtual environments
  • High attention to detail and accuracy
  • Intermediate skills in MS Office Excel including Pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and other formulas to analyze and report data efficiently
  • Familiarity with financial/accounting ERP systems. Oracle experience is a plus
  • Experience with month-end, quarter-end, or year-end close processes is a plus
  • Experience with income tax, sales tax and/or property tax filings is a plus.

  • The base salary range for this position is $70K to $76K/year. Offered salary will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to: applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.
