Summary:
The Senior Accountant will report to the Head of Accounting, ensuring adherence to processes that guarantee the accuracy of transactions for accounts receivable, accounts payable, and overall financial statements. This role demands extensive reconciliation expertise to support the preparation of financial reports, taxes, and audits. Responsibilities also include conducting reconciliations for accounting and financial aid compliance, addressing discrepancies, and upholding regulatory requirements.
Responsibilities:
- Perform weekly, monthly and annual reconciliations of accounting and financial records for management review and approval as assigned. Including subsidiary ledgers, books of original entry, and supporting schedules
- Review and reconcile any exceptions from reconciliations
- Oversee Purchase Order system and ensure accurate and timely processing of accounts payables
- Maintains fixed assets and depreciation schedules; ensuring schedules are reconciled to the general ledger
- Offers guidance to accounts payable and accounts receivable staff
- Prepares and records asset, liability, revenue, and expense entries by compiling and analyzing account information, under the direction of management
- Participate in the process of month end and year end close
- Participate and provides any necessary information in preparation for audits, maintaining amicable and professional relationship with external auditors
- Work closely with the VP of Compliance preparing special reports for government agencies, accreditors, and reporting variance analyses
- Understand and ensure compliance with all accreditation and regulatory requirements as it applies to all functions within the accounting and financial aid department
- Confirm through internal control reviews that verify the integrity of all systems, processes and data
- Participate in a wide variety of special projects as needed
- Communicate with co-workers, management, clients and others in a courteous and professional manner

Requirements
- Bachelor's degree or higher in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required
- At least 5 years of hands-on accounting experience
- Higher education accounting experience a plus
- Experience with governmental accounting and contracting a plus
- Preferred advanced proficiency with accounting software, QuickBooks, Microsoft Dynamics and Paylocity
- Experience with internal control audit function
- Detail oriented, outstanding research and analytical skills
