Role Description:

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Accountant to join our Accounting team. In this role, you will be a key member of the accounting team, responsible for a variety of accounting functions including month-end close, account reconciliations, and financial analysis. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of accounting principles (US GAAP), experience in the transportation or logistics industry, and the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment. This role reports to the Senior Manager, Accounting.

What you’ll do:

  • Perform month end accounting including journal entry preparation and reconciliation of balance sheet accounts.
  • Research the data inputs and results related to the Company’s shipping and freight costs.
  • Analyze trends in freight and shipping costs to identify potential misstatements.
  • Coordinate with the finance team to review monthly P&L and assist in investigating financials for variances to budget.
  • Collaborate directly with the operations, transportation, data, and IT teams to drive efficiencies and cross-team knowledge.
  • Maintain detailed narratives of all procedures and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls.
  • Support external audit and tax teams by preparing schedules, explaining supporting material and procedures and any other data as needed.
  • Examine the Company’s shipping data, shipping costs, contracts, and changes to discern the appropriate accounting treatment.
  • Examine critical accounting estimates and assumptions around expense recognition in addition to booking & analyzing monthly results
  • Assist on projects and ad hoc assignments as needed.
  • Additional duties and responsibilities as necessary.

What you’ll bring to the table:

  • 5+ years of progressive accounting experience with 3+ years in the transportation/logistics industry.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, accounting or related field.
  • CPA certification strongly preferred.
  • Strong understanding of transportation-specific accounting principles.
  • Advanced proficiency in accounting software, database skills and Microsoft Excel.
  • Experience with transportation management software (TMS) preferred
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work effectively in a lean, dynamic accounting environment.

ShipBob believes in transparency while providing a competitive total compensation package with a pay for performance approach. We are targeting a salary range of $75,525 - $125,875 for this role. The full base pay range for this position in our compensation architecture is $75,525 - $125,875. In addition to base salary, this role includes the opportunity to be eligible for participation in the Company's discretionary bonus plan based on Company's plans and in accordance with Company’s policies.
