Scientific Programmer
Lakewood, CO, United States
DATA AUTOMATION AND ANALYTICS GROUP
The Data Automation and Analytics group resides in the Lakewood, Colorado office and is comprised of team members local to Denver and those working remotely from other states. The group serves as a hub for innovation in the water resource engineering domain with a specialization in process automation, application of advanced analytic methodologies to civil engineering problems, and expansion of programming skills and best practices to the greater Michael Baker International workforce across various engineering disciplines and scientific fields. We work on both internal initiatives and client focused engagements and are committed to continual improvement and the highest quality outcomes for our clients, the communities we work in, and our colleague’s job satisfaction. Our contributions cover the AI spectrum of robust tool development, one-off automation scripts, cloud computing, big data processing, statistics, remote sensing, machine learning, neural nets, and website development. Each of our members have a technical background in engineering or earth science to complement our programming skills such that we are capable of identifying needs, understanding requirements, designing solutions, and solving implementation.
DESCRIPTION
Our Lakewood office is seeking a data engineer/scientific programmer to advance our engineering toolsets, data science initiatives, and operational capabilities. This role will support our Lakewood water group, collaborate with water resource engineers in other offices, and to a growing degree work across other civil engineering disciplines to support digital transformation in a quickly evolving industry.
Given the wide diversity of project types we collaborate on, this role requires a combination of innovation, creativity, discernment, and programming proficiency. A background in civil engineering, planning, or environmental science, or GIS is needed given the domains we work in.
The successful candidate will work closely with existing staff to maintain and improve existing tools and client-facing applications, operationalize proof-of-concept solutions with market potential, and ensure application of software engineering best practices across all levels of project execution. Additionally, the role will work with Michael Baker Project Managers and directly with clients to identify high-value opportunities and develop novel automation and analytics solutions that are likely to include applications of machine learning, deep learning, and classical statistics. The work environment will be highly collaborative with frequent brainstorming, trials, and revisions.
