"Electricity is such a vital component in everyone’s lives. It powers schools, businesses and hospitals, so I knew that if I did my placement within EDF then I would have a really large impact on society, and that made my placement a lot more fulfilling.” Priyanka Jayakurma, Science & Engineering Industrial Placement
What does this Science and Engineering opportunity offer you?
Joining EDF's Science and Engineering Industrial Placements means becoming key support for our Engineering team. You'll be working with engineers across all disciplines working to deliver engineering solutions for plant risks, in order to underpin safe, reliable generation into the future.
You’ll be based on site at one of our Heysham based Power Stations, where you’ll have the opportunity to work alongside colleagues focusing on engineering solutions. On the scheme, you'll have the chance to learn through hands-on experience under the guidance of highly skilled and experienced colleagues.
Pay, benefits and culture
Alongside a starting salary of £23,250 and a market-leading pension scheme, your package will include a range of benefits, from the big and formal to the small and personal.
We’re talking about everything from electric vehicle leasing to gym membership, health insurance to product discounts, critical illness insurance to technology vouchers, season ticket loans to enhanced parental leave.
At EDF, we embrace flexibility while recognising that everyone's working needs are different. Whether you're in our office spaces, on site, or working remotely, we promote an environment that supports collaboration, connection, and comfort. No matter where you are, our priority is to make sure you feel safe, valued, and celebrated.
Here, we do right by each other and everyone’s welcome. We’re on an action-oriented journey, championing equity, diversity, and inclusion. Our commitment is to have an equal gender balance, represent a broad mix of people from minority ethnic backgrounds, the LGBTQ+ community, people with a disability and colleagues from a disadvantaged background.
We’re a disability confident employer and we’ll do all we can to help with your application. Please let us know if you need to request reasonable adjustments.
Training, development and support for you:
Over this 12-month programme, most of what you learn will be on the job, with support from your mentor and the teams you work in. You’ll have the opportunity to apply your academic training to genuine challenges that are faced in the energy industry and complete modules that contribute to your degree.
Previous students on a Science and Engineering Industrial Placement have been involved in projects such as:
• Installing liquid level monitoring to ensure essential safety functions are maintained.
• Inspecting and assessing plant and component condition, determining remediation, repair and replacement strategies based on multiple factors.
• Assisting in running, maintaining and developing the condition monitoring programme throughout a plant.
