Range Mental Health Center is proud to be a Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic (CCBHC). The goals of the Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinics program in MN are to 1) increase access to community-based mental health and substance use disorder services (particularly to under-served communities), 2) advance integration of behavioral health with physical health care, and 3) improve utilization of evidence-based practices on a more consistent basis.
Job Summary:
The School Based Therapist provides initial and comprehensive evaluations, treatment plan development and review, psychotherapy, crisis assistance, and case consultation. The therapist works closely with school staff, mental health practitioners, and families to provide psychoeducation and to collaborate on progress towards treatment goals. This position is based in the schools.
Duties/Responsibilities:
During your Master’s level School Based Clinical Therapist Internship you:
- Will work within RMHC’s school based therapy program located within K-12 schools across the Iron Range. You may be placed in 1 or 2 schools with a clinical mentor.
- Will provide holistic care that identifies all areas of need and provides resources and supports to assist individuals on their wellness journey as part of our Certified Community Behavioral Health Clinic certification.
- Will experience exposure to multiple therapeutic modalities and therapeutic styles through shadowing and supervision opportunities.
- Will learn clinical skills of assessment and diagnosis, integrated treatment planning, and ongoing therapeutic treatment.
- Will provide Comprehensive Evaluations, Treatment and Crisis Prevention Planning, and Individual, Family, and/or Group clinical interventions.
- Will apply standardized screening and measurement tools in the assessment and diagnosis of clients.
- Will provide culturally competent and appropriate treatment services to youth and their families
- Will complete clinical documentation and other medically necessary documentation in the RMHC electronic health record, as required by agency policy and DHS standards in a timely manner.
- Will effectively collaborate with members of the interdisciplinary team, ensuring well-coordinated care and clinically appropriate referrals with families, school, and other service agencies.
- Will work a schedule sufficient to meet the needs of the school district(s) assigned.
- Will have a tailored learning plan to support your professional growth.
Supervision, support and collaboration:
- Each internship opportunity will be provided at minimum weekly individual and group supervision.
- Weekly the intern will also participate in a multidisciplinary team meeting. This meeting includes therapists, mental health practitioners, psychiatry, and nursing staff. All programs that are offered within RMHC are represented. The aim of this meeting is to provide care coordination across services, problem solve issues, and celebrate successes.

Education and Experience:
- Education Required: Bachelor’s degree
- Must be enrolled in a college or university graduate program in social work, counseling or other related behavioral health advanced degree to be eligible for this internship.
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
- Adequate level of vision to use computer terminal.
- Sufficient hearing to accurately record information received verbally.
- Must be 18 years of age.
