Role Objective

To manage the day-to-day operational and duty functions of the UK Safeguarding Team and support the Deputy Head of Safeguarding in continuous safeguarding improvements.

Main responsibilities:

  • Line manage the safeguarding duty team in their responsibility for safeguarding and promoting the welfare of Adults, Children and Young People at all times and to advise/support Service Delivery and other teams as appropriate regarding best practice.
  • Continuously develop and champion all safeguarding and clinical governance procedures as part of the safeguarding team, including safeguarding, training and supervision.
  • Lead on quality assurance of the safeguarding duty team work to ensure it is high quality, effective and fully compliant with relevant statutory guidance
  • Assess performance issues that may arise in relation safeguarding practice and ensure appropriate remedial action is taken through effective advice and support to managers
  • Lead and contribute on safeguarding improvement projects
  • Lead and contribute to the development/improvement and delivery of specialist safeguarding training packages that can be delivered both internally and externally
  • Deputise for Service Heads and deputy head of safeguarding, in providing safeguarding input into strategic decisions that span beyond the clinical and safeguarding operating model (eg are cross functional within Kooth).
  • Liaise with external stakeholders as appropriate to provide expert guidance regarding our clinical and safeguarding operating model.
  • Provide safeguarding leadership and input into organisational wide meetings with relevant managers and leads as required; taking project management responsibility as appropriate to subject areas
  • Maintain own accreditation /registration and professional standards.
  • Attend safeguarding supervision with a supervisor approved by Head of Safeguarding
  • Act as the lead professional for specific safeguarding areas (eg. PREVENT, Domestic Abuse) as delegated by the Head of Safeguarding
  • Promote a safeguarding culture of evidence based practice in all parts of the organisation and cultivates professional curiosity and healthy scepticism
  • Participate in and lead user safety investigations, including gathering evidence, interviewing staff, reviewing service user interactions, determining problem root causes and proposing corrective and preventive actions.
  • Support the deputy head of safeguarding in managing the integration of Kooth’s services with relevant local multi-agency safeguarding structures and provide oversight of the safeguarding team’s policies, processes, advice and guidance for multi-agency working.
  • Provide regular safeguarding advice, guidance, and oversight, while contributing to and undertaking duty tasks and supporting duty activities where necessary as part of the safeguarding service.

The main responsibilities are not an exhaustive list of duties, only a general guide to the post. In consultation with the post-holder, the duties may change from time to time to reflect the changing needs of the service.

Requirements

Experience / Qualifications

  • Registered safeguarding professional (Social Worker or other relevant professional with prior safeguarding designated responsibilities, eg. NHS professions, Teacher or Police Officer)
  • Minimum of 4 years of specific safeguarding experience.
  • Demonstrable management experience in a safeguarding context
  • Trained to a minimum of level 4 safeguarding children and adults in line with NHS Intercollegiate Document
  • Experience of working with mental health service users
