Purpose of Position

The Rock Wall Program Manager is responsible for assisting in the planning, developing, and organization of Rock Wall programming. The Program Manager will assist with tracking participation numbers, scheduling, promotion, safety, and with administrative duties such as hiring, upholding policies and employee training. This position is considered a member of the Administrative group of the Wellness Center.

This is a part-time, non-benefited position. Only UND students are eligible to be hired in this position.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Provide input and feedback to the Coordinator of Campus Recreation for the marketing and creative development of the Rock Wall Program.
  • Assist in the planning and leading of area-specific meetings, continuing education trainings, and communication of policies, processes, and updates to all Rock Wall staff including coordinating makeup meeting sessions as necessary.
  • Assist in hiring, training, supervising, and evaluating of all Rock Wall Attendants.
  • Assist in the development and updates of team training playbooks, which include policies, procedures, and team-specific requirements.
  • Oversee personnel scheduling of Rock Wall team by ensuring staffing is in line with budgeted hours and fulfilling any Rock Wall Reservation requests as needed.
  • Assist with acquisition, maintenance and inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Assist in the management of climbing wall routes.
  • Review and follow up as necessary with shift reports, belay, setting and safety checks
  • Assist in teaching safety techniques and tracking wall usage during open recreation.
  • Ensure that wall, storage, closets, and rock wall area are clean, safe, and organized.
  • Serve as an active member of the Program Manager team and attend regularly scheduled meeting
  • Meet with direct supervisor regularly
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements

  • Familiarity with rock climbing technique, route setting, safe practices, and equipment.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Strong communication skills
  • Ability to lead and instruct groups of 2-25 people.
  • Ability to push and pull 50 pounds of weight.
  • Certification in CPR/First Aid/AED, or ability to obtain within 2 weeks of hire. (Training provided by the Wellness Center at no cost for employees)
  • Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with outdoor, sport, lead, or traditional climbing.
  • Prior employment as a Rock Wall Attendant for a minimum of 1 semester.
  • PCIA (Professional Climbers In America) Certification
