The Driver’s primary function/purpose will be to ensure timely pick up and drop off to Rikers Island. This employee will work Saturdays and Sundays from 7:00 AM to 4:00pm with the possibility of overtime. Commuting within all five boroughs and Long Island. Pick up clients from their home or another convenient community location and drive them to Rikers to visit with their loved one on the weekends. Support transportation between RMSC and our community-based offices for mothers being released from New York City Department of Corrections custody. Provide exceptional professional and courteous service to our participant base. Responsible for delivery and pickup of all supplies, and administrative paperwork specific to each jail.
Salary: $26.00/HR
Essential Duties:
- Drive company vehicles to pick up and drop-off participants from Rikers Island and/or other NYS Prison facilities.
- Maintain a clean driving record.
- Must have knowledge of driving throughout the NYC area and upstate New York
- Secure DOC all-access Gate 1 clearance to enter Rikers Island and maintain security clearance.
- Secure access to NYS prison facilities.
- Deliver documents and files to required destinations.
- Ensure that all deliveries to facilities are to the correct recipient.
- Keep the vehicle clean and maintained at all times.
- Use great care and caution while driving in inclement weather, such as snow/rain.
- Maintain electronic logs to track van use, schedule, and paperwork delivery.
- Perform preventive and regular maintenance on the assigned vehicles, and ensure that proper detailing is performed on the vehicle.
- Promptly communicate vehicle needs to supervisor regarding damages, maintenance needs, fluids, tires, etc.
- Perform data entry requested in the Osborne database (ECM)
Service vehicle maintenance management
- Schedule annual vehicle examination for service vehicles with the Transportation Department and apply for the renewal for the vehicle license
- Determine when and what kind of maintenance the vehicle needs, keep track of general maintenance schedules, especially car type and condition.
- Ensure sound running of the vehicles assigned and arrange minor repairs where necessary.
- Check oil and tires and keep the service on the vehicle up to date
- Maintain the cleanliness of the vehicle both inside and outside
- Keep track of timely car insurance renewals/ DOC vehicle clearance.
- Update monthly mileage records
- Maintain log book of each service on the vehicle
Minimum Qualifications:
- High School Diploma. Valid Driver’s license.
- Minimum of three years experience driving a passenger van.
- Ability to manage time and routes for a streamlined delivery experience.
- Must be able to lift up to 70 pounds.
- Open and transparent communication.
- Familiarity with using GPS devices or map apps.
- Intermediate knowledge of MS Office (Word, Excel). Must possess a positive and professional attitude. Ability to work well independently.
