Risk Analyst

Job Summary
The Risk Analyst utilizes financial and risk management concepts and/or techniques for analysis and monitoring of market risks. The risk analyst will participate in the preparation and analysis of daily risk management reports (positions, MTM P&L, etc.), communicate the results to other groups as needed, and will be responsible for monitoring compliance with the risk management policy and procedures.
Primary Responsibilities
- Ensures that the company’s market risks are identified, measured, and monitored.
- Creates timely daily reports of MTM P&L and positions as well as the analysis and explanation of changes between periods for gas and power.
- Monitors conformance with the Risk Management Policies and Procedures and assists in an annual review to ensure the Policies are up to date and accurate.
- Monitors daily broker balances and promptly responds to any margin calls. As needed, responds promptly to margin calls from other Supply counterparties.
- Recalls cash collateral from brokers and counterparties when possible or requested by the Director, Finance or Treasury team.
- Participates in the development of procedures and guidelines to ensure the quality and integrity of IGS Energy positions, risk measurements and model valuations.
- Substantiates the accuracy of valuations and risk measurement calculations.
- Validates details of all transaction confirmations received on a daily basis vs the details input into ETRM (Energy Trading Risk Management) application and other systems across the company by the Supply group. Works with Supply, IT, and/or counterparty to resolve any discrepancies.
- Participates in special projects within the team; particularly in terms of improving risk management reporting, process improvements and new initiatives as technology and organizational needs evolve.
- Monitors the contract approval process and ensures each document is reviewed and approved by all of the appropriate parties. Ensures that all documents are fully executed and stored appropriately. Acts as the intermediary between the Company and counterparties during contract negotiations and the document execution process.
- Supports the Supply team by updating and maintaining the Company’s ETRM application and other internal systems, working with new counterparties and brokers to open up more trading options, communicating updates, or dispute resolutions to and from counterparties, etc.
- Implements industry best practices.
- Provides ad hoc reporting and analyses as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Required Skills
- Strong quantitative and analytical skills
- Proficient in Excel/Word/Outlook/ required.
- Operates with an awareness of industry standards and procedures
- Ability to effectively work on multiple tasks with the appropriate sense of urgency
- Good communication skills in order to interact openly and directly with business partners and team members
- Strong organization skills in order to balance tasks for multiple business partners
Minimum Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance.
- Non-regulated Energy Industry experience a plus
Salary Range:
$64,710.00 - $103,540.00*This range reflects base pay only. Incentive earnings, like commissions or bonuses, are not included.
