Purpose

The demand for high quality health economic and outcomes research (HEOR), health services research (HSR) and real-world evidence (RWE) to support drug development, health technology assessment/access decisions, product differentiation, clinical decision making, and craft the health policy environment continues to increase. The Lilly Value and Access Health Outcomes and Medical Engagement (LVA HOME) team is looking for dedicated, upbeat, creative, diverse, influential, and collaborative team members to join our function and Team Lilly.

The US healthcare system is dynamic, sophisticated, and constantly evolving. Continuous innovation in the medical and pharmaceutical industry and advances in health information technology and real-world data require our LVA HOME team to continually evolve in order to optimize value for US population-based decision makers (PBDM). The ­­­Director will provide strategic insight/leadership into the evidence needs (e.g., health economics, health services, health policy, patient reported outcomes, real world evidence, access and reimbursement) and RWE capability needs and development for Lilly’s portfolio. The Director will use their knowledge of health outcomes and health services research fields, therapeutic area knowledge of disease states in the Lilly portfolio, understanding of drug development and commercialization, and geographic market knowledge in the role. Research project ownership and execution is required. The Director may have duties ranging from external interaction (e.g. trade organizations, US population-based decision makers, etc) to resolve research and analytics needs, developing and articulating product value propositions, real world evidence generation, and differentiation strategies using HEOR research depending on the individual assignment.

Primary Responsibilities

Strategy

  • Drives integration of HEOR from early clinical development through commercialization depending on focus of role.

  • Develops HEOR and RWE generation for compounds in the Lilly portfolio relevant to our accelerated research and evidence capability and strategy.

  • Serves as a strategic partner on lead/core teams throughout development and/or commercialization, including collaboration with accelerated insights capability leaders to rethink routine and deliver RWE to decision makers in an innovative and personalized manner.

  • Formulates and drives real world evidence, and/or economic value strategies for priority products and geographies.

  • Develops and leads cross-portfolio (non-business unit specific) health policy research ideation in priority areas.

Study Development and Execution

  • Partner with Medical Affairs, develops RWE for products across the lifecycle, to influence and support evidence needs for Lilly products in support of improving patient outcomes.

  • Leads research protocol development, including statistical analysis plan, and engage in drafting of manuscripts and external disclosures.

  • Leads oversight of research analyst(s) assigned to projects and collaborates closely partners in IT/Tech@Lilly for use of RWD platform.

  • Applies technical expertise (e.g., scope or depth in statistical analysis, economic modeling, clinical trials, observational/ epidemiologic research, and health technology or other value assessment).

  • Applies disease state knowledge, health policy knowledge, considering of US healthcare industry, and research methods to solve HO and HS issues associated with pricing, reimbursement, and access initiatives.

  • Collaborates with decision makers directly and agilely to develop research that supports personalized value propositions.

Organizational Leadership and Influence

  • Links technical expertise with an eye for business and establishes and maintains strategic relationships with key internal and external decision makers.

  • Effectively leads RWE in collaboration with cross-functional teams (LVA, Medical Affairs).

  • Effectively integrates with and influences key business collaborators and external consultants to achieve goals and outcomes.

  • Leads efforts to modernize research and RWE processes to deliver faster and more frequent RWE to decision makers, in partnership with key partners including legal, privacy, and ethics and compliance.

Information Dissemination

  • Effectively communicates research to internal business partners, the scientific community, and decision makers.

  • Collaborates with key partners (e.g. IT, data visualization) to deliver research insights through innovative analytics platforms and user interfaces.

  • Drives research dissemination strategies and leads research communication efforts including abstracts, posters, podium presentations, white papers, press releases, promotional materials, and manuscripts.

  • Reviews research for suitability as health outcomes in promotional material (HOPR) to ensure submitted research meets applicable standards.

  • Ensure research is presented in a fair and balanced manner in promotional content.

Environmental Awareness

  • Maintains awareness of significant developments in disease states in the Lilly portfolio and HO, HS and health policy fields including current research methodologies and applications and other issues as appropriate for the position.

  • Anticipates and evaluates imminent market needs and trends for RWE information.

Project Management

  • Ensures research and analytics capabilities projects meet timelines, budget, and scope by coordinating efforts with cross-functional Lilly partners and external contributors as appropriate.

  • Leads health outcomes in promotional review process, including governance and oversight.

  • Coordinates and consults with capability platform strategy leads on build of RWD analytics platform and data visualization.

Basic Requirements

  • Doctorate or Clinical Degree (PhD, MD/MS, PharmD/MS, etc) with 4+ years of experience in creating, executing, and delivering real world evidence.

Additional Preferences:

  • Understanding of US health care systems and population health dynamics.

  • Work experience with US payer or decision makers.

  • Understanding of and experience with US health care delivery models.

  • Understanding of medical and pharmacy coding (e.g. NDC, ICD, CPT, HCPCS).

  • Familiarity with data analytic tools and analytics languages and statistical software (e.g. R, Python, SAS).

  • Technical and analytic capabilities in one or more of the following areas: economic modeling, economic evaluation, cost-effectiveness evaluation, patient focused outcomes, real world evidence, burden of disease, epidemiology, statistics, health care policy, health services, implementation science, data science.

  • Demonstrated ability to drive research agendas to completion and dissemination.

  • Ability to think and act globally with a decision maker focus and a solution orientation.

Additional Information:

  • Location is flexible in United States

  • Domestic travel up to 15%

  • Lilly currently anticipates that the base salary for this position could range from between $204,000 to $272,800 and will depend, in part, on the successful candidate’s qualifications for the role, including education and experience. Full-time equivalent employees also will be eligible for a company bonus (depending, in part, on company and individual performance). In addition, Lilly offers a comprehensive benefit program to eligible employees, including eligibility to participate in a company-sponsored 401(k); pension; vacation benefits; eligibility for medical, dental, vision and prescription drug benefits; flexible benefits (e.g., healthcare and/or dependent day care flexible spending accounts); life insurance and death benefits; certain time off and leave of absence benefits; and well-being benefits (e.g., employee assistance program, fitness benefits, and employee clubs and activities).Of course, the compensation described above is subject to change and could be higher or lower than the range described above.
