WHO WE ARE: At Fors Marsh, we take on issues that matter. We are a team of researchers, advisors, and communicators working together to shape the systems that shape people's lives. We look at human behavior from all angles to design targeted solutions that influence decision-making and move people to action. We are committed to the problem, not just the project, and we are intentional about taking on work and forming partnerships that balance purpose, people, planet, and profit. We are a certified B Corporation, a Just employer, and a 2019–2024 Top Workplace awardee. We hold ourselves accountable to the values that have always defined us, and those values drive us to be the best possible versions of ourselves—for each other, our communities, our clients, and the world.

WHO WE ARE LOOKING FOR: Fors Marsh is seeking an intelligent and motivated researcher with a background in quantitative and qualitative social science to join our Military Recruiting Research team. This individual will work in a researcher role, providing expertise in the development, execution, and analysis of large-scale surveys and focus groups for the Department of Defense. This work supports market research on effective outreach strategies and provides insight about the motivations and experiences of those who join the Military. The researcher’s primary responsibilities will include conducting and reporting upon analyses of survey and focus group data, supporting questionnaire development and background research, dataset cleaning, content coding, report and briefing deck creation, responses to ad-hoc client requests, and communication of findings in an impactful way to non-technical audiences. This job is best suited for someone who enjoys market research, working collaboratively with team members and clients, consistently strives to improve, excels in quality control, and wants to use research to make an impact.

Responsibilities include:

  • Supporting the design, development, and execution of large-scale surveys examining topics such as advertising tracking and evaluation, media habits, event and sponsorship attendance, and experiences in the recruiting process.
  • Supporting the design, development, and execution of qualitative research (e.g., focus groups).
  • Supporting all aspects of the research process, including survey creation, data cleaning, data analysis, and reporting.
  • Preparing and analyzing qualitative and quantitative data, including interpreting results from descriptive and inferential analyses to identify patterns and solutions.
  • Preparing internal and external communications that summarize research methods, describe and interpret results, and detail implications, including research reports and briefs for scientific and non-scientific audiences, supporting written proposals through business development channels, and engaging in other internal or external communications summarizing research methods, findings, and implications.
  • Working closely with clients to understand their needs and research goals, manage their expectations, and provide continuous support across multiple concurrent projects.
  • Managing several concurrent tasks, schedules, and deliverables to meet large project goals and objectives.
  • Working collaboratively with internal teams, supporting a variety of projects, and coordinating project deliverables.
  • Upholding the highest standards of quality control for yourself and others.
  • Balancing roles and responsibilities across multiple concurrent studies. Working under tight deadlines to fulfill client requests.
  • Anticipating potential barriers to project completion, proposing solutions to team leadership.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or Master's degree in psychology, marketing, economics, social science, statistics or related field required.
  • A minimum of one to three years of post-graduate professional research experience, preferably in the area of market or communication research, decision-making, or social psychology.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to identify and communicate key findings from research to non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work independently without close supervision and as a team member.
  • Excellent analytic and dataset manipulation skills (e.g., merging, recoding, cleaning) in at least one statistical software package (e.g., Stata, SPSS, SAS, R). Experience doing so via syntax-based commands is preferred.
  • Experience conducting qualitative research (e.g., focus groups, interviews)
  • Experience creating visual and written summaries of research results (e.g., in PowerPoint and Word) that can be understood by non-technical audiences.
  • Strong quantitative ability and a keen eye for detail and accuracy.
  • Applicants may be subject to a low-level government security investigation and must meet eligibility criteria for access to sensitive information.
  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and consent to a full background check due to our federal contract requirements.
