Reviews renewal insurance applications to evaluate, classify, and rate individuals and groups for insurance and accepts or rejects applications by performing the following duties.
How You Will Contribute
- examines such documents as application forms, inspection reports, insurance maps, and medical reports to determine degree of risk from such factors as applicant financial standing, age, occupation, accident experience, and value and condition of property,
- reviews company records to determine amount of insurance in force on single risk or group of closely related risks, and evaluates possibility of losses due to catastrophe or excessive insurance,
- underwrite or broker renewal accounts, insuring that all required information is obtained per carrier guidelines, proper applications are completed, quotes and binders are confirmed in writing, policies are issued promptly and accurately, state filings (where applicable) are made, and taxes paid in accordance with appropriate state laws. Secure payments on risks bound or written,
- assist the Underwriter/Broker with the review, analysis and underwriting of primarily renewal risks, as well as new business as directed, rate accounts for premium and terms, analyze exposures for quotes for new and renewal business, issue written indications, quotes and binders; use inspection companies to obtain further information, quote rates, or explain company underwriting policies,
- together with the Underwriter/Broker will market and meet with retail agency customers to develop business and cultivate relationships to grow a book of business,
- understand and extend Company facilities, utilizing binding authorities or brokering risks when required to successfully negotiate a placement; and assist the dept. with overall underwriting results,
- see that coding on specific required forms are completed and utilized,
- service and perpetuate existing business, and have a keen awareness of priorities,
- instruct and train processors and assistants, review indications, quotes, binders, submissions and policies for completeness and accuracy,
- provide guidance and training others in the dept., to enable them to reduce the underwriter’s clerical workload,
- foster and improve relationships with other departments, producers, companies and competitors,
- provide full assistance and support for the sales and production process in the dept,
- confer with the department Leader before underwriting or brokering unusual or unfamiliar coverages or manuscript forms,
Skills & Experience to Be Successful
- Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year college or university is desired or five years insurance experience, two years of which are as an underwriting assistant.
- P&C State licensed.
- Proficient with MS Office
- Exceptional telephone demeanor
- 1-3 years’ experience with excess and surplus lines underwriting agency or company.
- Pursue the CIC or CPCU designation, thorough familiarity with applicable ISO manuals, forms, rating plans, policy forms i.e. coverages, exclusions, conditions, and terms. (preferred)
Pay Range
55000 - 85000 AnnualThe pay range provided above is made in good faith and based on our lowest and highest annual salary or hourly rate paid for the role and takes into account years of experience required, geography, and/or budget for the role.
