Schedule:

Evenings & Weekend, event based with some dedicated hours at our book center. 

Salary/Wage Range/Lump Sum:

$16.00-$18.00/hour

Qualifications:

-Prefer work experience or education in the area of Education, Early Childhood Education, Library Science.
-Must pass background check and driver's license verification.
-Valid driver’s license is helpful but not required
-Strong commitment to the mission of Madison Reading Project.
-Knowledge of and commitment to understanding the diverse need of our community.
-Comfort working with children and families in community spaces.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

-Knowledge of literacy learning and reading practices for children birth through fifth grade.
-Strong verbal, written, and listening communication skills.
-Good organizational, planning, and time management skills.
-Good computer skills including experience using Google Suites.
-Ability to work with a diverse group of staff and volunteers.
-Adaptable and flexible in changing circumstances.
-Flexible schedule (availability to work some nights and weekends based on schedule)

Position Summary/Job Duties:

-Leading MRP literacy programming at partner organizations and community events.
-Maintaining organization at MRP’s book center.
-Driving the Big Red Reading Bus and helping children select books.
-Supporting volunteers at community events.
-Projects as assigned by the Program Director.

Physical Demands:

The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties of this job. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the duties of this position, it will require walking, bending, climbing stairs and getting in and out of the MRP van etc. The employee must hold a valid driver's license and be able to drive a vehicle safely in the community. The employee may be required to sit for long periods of time and use a computer keyboard, monitor, mouse and telephone. Requires sufficient hand, arm, and finger dexterity to operate computer keyboard or other office equipment. Requires visual acuity to read and write words and numbers. Requires speaking and hearing ability sufficient to communicate in person, publicly or over the phone. The employee must be able to lift up to 40 pounds unassisted on an occasional basis, but at those times the lifting could be repetitive. Must be able to stand, walk, bend, reach, stoop, crouch, crawl, sit, twist, turn.
