R&D Tax Manager

Compensation: $100,000-$120,000 per year   Role Overview As an R&D Tax Manager for the Professional Services team, utilizing a bespoke technology platform specifically designed to meet R&D Tax Credit documentation needs, you will manage a client portfolio for whom you will work on identifying and quantifying federal and state research tax credits. Reporting directly to the R&D Tax Credit Practice Leader, you will supervise R&D Tax Credit projects, research tax issues, interview clients, and document eligible tax credit criteria. This is a unique opportunity for a tech savvy individual that has a positive, can-do attitude and a quick learner with the ability to understand tax concepts. The ideal candidate should have 4-5 years of experience of interacting directly with R&D clients, managing client assignments and audit or tax teams at an accounting, tax, or management consulting firm. Experienced candidates should demonstrate comprehensive technical skills, building relationships both internally and externally across different levels of management, developing project plans, managing workflows, and comprehending complex written and verbal materials as well as managing and developing junior staff members.

Day to Day Responsibilities

  • Report to the Practice Leader of R&D Tax Credits, you will work with a team of professionals to help our clients with the preparation of their tax incentive claims
  • Manage and participate in the preparation and completion of client R&D tax credit incentive claims
  • Proactively communicate regarding status of tasks, relevant technical issues discovered, expected due dates, and general project management both internally and externally
  • Gather, format, and analyze large volumes of financial data to create large complex calculation databases
  • Mentor and train junior staff team members by sharing best practices and R&D tax knowledge through training, coaching, and supervising their work products
  • Assist with drafting opinion letters, responses to IRS inquiries, IRS ruling requests, and other technical memoranda
  • Participate in research of thought leadership materials and credit-related continuing education
  • Provide solutions to help clients maximize R&D credits while substantiating R&D claims
  • Responsible for preparing and/or reviewing quantitative and qualitative work products
  • Support sales team members in prospect calls/demos (where necessary)
  What You Will Need to Succeed
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Economics, Finance, or the hard sciences. CPA/JD is a plus
