The Pulmonary Function Technologist I demonstrates proficiency in performing routine pulmonary function tests, including: spirometry with bronchodilator, lung volumes by plethsmography, Diffusing Capacity, MVV, respiratory muscle pressures, 6-minute walk tests, Methacholine challenges and arterial blood gases

  • Performs routine pulmonary function tests in accordance with established laboratory procedures and policies.
  • Establishes rapport with patients and demonstrates the ability to allay their fears, elicit their cooperation and answer their questions competently about testing procedures.
  • Accurately records test results and pertinent notes about test quality and patient performance. Alerts senior Technologist staff/ manager / physician if patient needs immediate evaluation or attention during or after testing.
  • Generates test reports and results as per lab standards and assists in data input/scanning as required.
  • Follows established procedures for maintaining quality assurance in the laboratory, including manual and automated calibration checks of equipment, collection of biologic control data, and the assessment of equipment errors, with the ability to troubleshoot and convey information appropriately to technical support representatives and management.
  • May perform preventative maintenance on equipment and reports problems to senior staff or management for resolution.
  • Adheres to specific guidelines for performing pulmonary testing based on research protocols.
  • Contributes to maintaining a safe, comfortable environment for both patients and staff in the Pulmonary Function Laboratory.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • 0-1 year experience as Respiratory Therapist. 
  • Experience with cardiopulmonary exercise testing is preferred.

Compensation Statement

The Mount Sinai Health System (MSHS) provides a salary range to comply with the New York City Law on Salary Transparency in Job Advertisements. The salary range for this role is $19.02 - $28.53 Hourly. Actual salaries depend on a variety of factors, including experience, education, and hospital need. The salary range or contractual rate listed does not include bonuses/incentive, differential pay or other forms of compensation or benefits.
