ICF’s Transportation Line of Business

We work on transportation mobility and safety and the environmental, social, and economic impacts of transportation. We report on infrastructure projects, programs, and government policies; develop guidebooks; and document transportation best practices in Federal, State, and local governments. Our clients include the Federal Highway Administration, other U.S. Department of Transportation agencies, the Transportation Research Board, state transportation and environmental agencies, and metropolitan planning organizations.

We are seeking a Microsoft Word formatter who can also perform copyediting to produce documents for clients in the transportation and environmental sectors. Publications range from 2-page fact sheets for the general public to 600-page reports to Congress.

Key Responsibilities

• Format documents in Microsoft Word using styles and themes
• Apply the correct heading level to chapters and chapter subheadings
• Insert captions and cross-references
• Insert page numbers and ensure page numbering is correct in document parts, chapters, and appendices
• Generate tables of contents and lists of figures from styles applied to document content
• Create document templates in Microsoft Word
• Run editorial scans of documents using editorial software and make corrections according to each client’s specific style guide
• Use editing software to compile lists of abbreviations and acronyms

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in relevant field and 3 years of professional experience in layout, formatting, and editing
• Knowledge of and experience working in Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and SharePoint and in Adobe Acrobat

Preferred Qualifications

• Exceptional attention to detail with a focus on consistency
• Familiarity with accessibility standards for print and digital publications
• Self-starter with the ability to manage tasks and handle multiple priorities with minimal supervision
• Excellent time management
