Leidos is seeking a Public Relations and Events Specialist to join our Hawai‘i Energy program team’s efforts in empowering our community to achieve the state’s clean energy goals.

The Challenge:

The PR & Events Specialist plays an integral role in supporting Hawai‘i Energy’s mission by encouraging participation in Hawai‘i Energy’s incentive programs and maintaining the program’s brand integrity. This position will support external communications and customer engagement through such activities as: leading community outreach and speaking engagement attendance; supporting media relations and liaising with a subcontracted PR agency; developing and executing on Hawai‘i Energy’s social media strategy and providing other all-around support for marketing campaigns. 

This position is ideal if you enjoy events and outreach, a passion for public relations, writing, and creative work; are self-driven with meeting project deadlines; and are able to work effectively with a diverse team of engineers/technical professionals, communications staff, creatives, external vendors and other collaborators in the energy industry.

This position will report to the Marketing and Communications Manager. This is not a fully remote position. A hybrid, flexible work schedule may be arranged, and applicants must be based on Oahu and/or willing to be in-person on Oahu multiple times a week. In-person weekend and after-business hours work may be required periodically. Responsibilities and duties include, but are not limited to:

  • Lead community outreach & special event participation for Hawai‘i Energy, including team staffing, logistics and developing annual strategy for event commitments. Attend outreach events when needed.
  • Lead Hawai‘i Energy’s social media strategy, including developing of quarterly goals and tactics for increasing engagement across platforms, as well as producing and scheduling content
  • Support public relations efforts, including:
    • Media relations – collecting quotes and statistics for news releases, coordinating media appearances for program leadership, and
    • Positioning – pitching stories and speaking engagement opportunities for Hawai‘i Energy leadership
