Author’s innovative care model is a virtual-first, technology-enabled mental health solution for patients with serious mental illness (SMI), substance use disorders (SUD) and dementia. At Author, we work as a multidisciplinary team and partner closely with primary care offices, families and caregivers. Our goal is to improve the quality of life for patients by providing community-based wrap-around outpatient mental health care inclusive of psychiatric, psychotherapeutic and care management services and keeping them out of the hospital and the ER. We deliver the majority of our clinical services through our virtual platform, with in-person contact as needed.
As part of our growth, we seek a compassionate and experienced Psychiatrist for the role of Psychiatrist Pod Lead to join our multidisciplinary team. Reporting to the Executive Medical Director, this role entails direct psychiatric care as well as overseeing a pod of psychiatric nurse practitioners. The ideal candidate has training and experience in diagnosing and treating serious mental health conditions in adult and older adult patients, such as depression and anxiety, dementia, psychosis and substance use disorders. In addition to direct clinical care, the Psychiatrist Pod Lead provides clinical leadership and oversight to a designated psychiatry pod composed of psychiatric nurse practitioners working very closely with the care management team (registered nurses) and Executive Medical Director.
Due to the clinical aspect of this role, the position requires that you be a board certified practicing psychiatrist. Applicants who do not meet this requirement will not be considered for this position
This is a full-time, exempt remote position. Author Health will provide all necessary equipment to support your work-from-home setup.
Job Description:
Psychiatry Pod Lead
- Provide psychiatric clinical leadership to a designated psychiatry pod (team), ensuring the delivery of high-quality, evidence-based care to patients with SMI, SUD and dementia.
- Lead, mentor, and supervise a multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals
- Lead clinical team huddles to ensure the care team is working collaboratively toward improving the lives and clinical outcomes of patients
- Provide clinical support to BH team who will be providing short-term psychotherapy, supporting caregivers, coordinating transitions of care, and connecting patients to community-based organizations and agencies
- Provide regular supervision and support to respective pod psychiatric nurse practitioners
- Conduct regular case reviews, peer supervision sessions, and provide constructive feedback to ensure professional development and adherence to best practices.
- Serve as a key liaison between the psychiatric pod and other departments, including primary care, chronic care management, and community services.
- Collaborate with PCPs, as well as patients’ other providers, to coordinate treatment and help address co-occurring physical health conditions
- Contribute to constructing the psychiatrist’s role within the company, including contributing to company culture and serving as an ambassador for the company’s mission.
- Contribute to the development and implementation of BH clinical programming within the market, with an eye toward refining processes that allow the company to scale
Direct Psychiatric Care
- Manage the psychiatric care of a panel of patients, including diagnostic assessments, treatment planning, medication management, and crisis intervention when needed.
- Ensure continuity of care by monitoring patient progress, adjusting treatment plans as necessary, and ensuring follow-up care is provided.
- Use outcome measurement tools during the course of treatment to help patients and the treatment team track progress.
- Implement and monitor clinical protocols and guidelines that enhance the quality of psychiatric care.
- Support recruitment process, interview candidates and providing input in hiring process in addition to supporting clinician onboarding and ongoing training
- Participate in a rotating on-call schedule (few times per year)
- Full-time, 40h/week (anticipate 30h/week direct virtual patient care)
Qualifications:
- Education / Licensure / Certifications:
- Medical Degree (MD or DO) and Board certification in Adult Psychiatry is required
- Active medical licensure in the states of practice, Florida and Texas and other states as services are scaled nationally
- Additional board certification in Geriatric Psychiatry, Consultation Liaison Psychiatry, Addiction Psychiatry is preferred.
- Experience:
- Leadership experience in clinical psychiatry with proven experience leading, managing, or supervising multidisciplinary teams.
- Strong knowledge of psychiatric conditions, treatment modalities, and current best practices in the field.
- Experience treating patients with serious mental illness (preferred: experience treating seniors) and comfort managing patients with complex medical and psychosocial needs.
- Telehealth experience
- A minimum of 2-3 years experience supervising psychiatric nurse practitioners
- Experience supervising a multidisciplinary team of providers
- Experience working in a collaborative care model and with care management teams is a plus
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) preferred
Physical Demands & Work Environment:
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple priorities.
- This is a remote position with occasional travel for meetings, conferences, and site visits with external partners or healthcare stakeholders as needed.
- The role will require the ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a virtual environment.
- Physical requirements include ability to use a computer.
