Position Summary:

IEM is searching for a talented and experienced, Full Time - Proposal Writer to join our team. The Proposal Writer will support our efforts in securing program, grants, and project management consulting services for federal grant programs in disaster recovery, community development, housing, infrastructure, and other federally funded programs related to broadband, energy, and Medicaid. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in grant writing, project management, and federal grant programs to help our clients achieve their funding goals.

Primary Location:  

  • Candidates can originate from anywhere in the United States or Puerto Rico, you will work remotely from home or personal office location.
  • All remote work environments require the ability to maintain minimum Internet speeds of 25 Mbps upload and 3 Mbps download, as well as a ping rate of 100 ms or less during working hours, regardless of the type and number of devices using your Internet connection. You must also have account privileges and access to your Internet service provider account during working hours for the purposes of maintaining the Internet connection, if needed.

Travel Requirements:

  • This position may require travel to complete work assignments or attend meetings.

Essential Functions:

  • Develop, write, and edit compelling grant proposals to federal agencies and other grant-making organizations, persuasively communicating the organization's mission and programs to potential clients. 
  • Draft proposal outlines including win themes and coordinate with program teams.
  • Align organization's objectives with grant requirements.
  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop comprehensive grant proposals that align with client needs and funding requirements.
  • Coordinate with internal and external partners to gather necessary information and data for proposals.
  • Work closely with the Business Development Organization to respond to opportunities.
  • Manage the proposal development and submission process including proposal calendar, timelines, deliverables, and stakeholder coordination to ensure timely submission of all required materials. 
  • Ensure accuracy, proofread, and edit proposals for clarity and compliance with request for proposal requirements.
  • Ensure submission of all required documents.
  • Schedule and lead strategy meetings.
  • Provide regular updates on proposal development stages.
  • Track and report on the status of proposal submissions.
  • Develop and maintain a knowledge base related to proposed areas of business.
  • Develop and maintain a knowledge base of current and past proposals. 
  • Maintain records in a central repository for future reference.
  • Document best practices and lessons learned.
  • Research, identify, and track federal grant opportunities.
  • Support business development efforts by contributing to marketing materials, presentations, and client communications.
  • Stay informed about federal grant programs, policies, and trends to inform proposal strategies and approaches.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Urban Planning, or a related field. 
  • Proven track record in grant writing for federal grant programs in disaster recovery, community development, affordable housing and homelessness, infrastructure and/or other federally funded programs related to broadband, public housing, energy, and Medicaid
  • Exceptional writing, editing and verbal communication skills, with a keen eye for detail and accuracy. 
  • Strong research abilities and analytical skills. 
  • Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Knowledge of federal grant regulations and compliance requirements.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to understand and execute complex instructions. 
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and grant management software.
