The NISC IV program within Leidos is looking for a Project Engineer! 

This position provides support for the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Power Services Group under the National Air-Space Implementation Support Contract (NISC) with respect to power engineering.

The successful candidate will:

  • Provide engineering consultation for compliance with FAA and industry standards and best practices and provide recommendations for solutions in all phases of the system’s lifecycle including contract, policy, site survey, design and design review, and implementation.
  • As Project Engineer, candidate would work closely with the Lightning and Surge Protection, Grounding, Bonding and Shielding (LPGBS) team lead. 
  • Assist the lead with interface with government clients and build strong client relationship.
  • Working knowledge of FAA LPGBS and subsystems, as well as familiarity with FAA, government, and industry codes, both national and international.
  • Participate in the development, administration, management, logistic, and strategy of project planning and implementation.
  • Demonstrate ability to independently review engineering drawings and design package. 
  • Demonstrate ability to perform site survey, develop reports and scope of work, as well as coherent drawing packages. Implement consistent quality control process.
  • Ability to work with other engineers in multidisciplinary engineering disciplines such as power systems, communications, RF, analog and digital systems.

The following set of skills/knowledge will lead to successful career in this position:

  • Independent and able to make technical decisions.
  • The ideal candidate must have clear verbal communication and strong writing skills exhibited through thesis or dissertation papers at academic institutions or white papers. 
  • Sample of writing may be requested. Experience or familiarity with some or all of the following are required: short circuit coordination, arc flash studies, engine generator, UPS, grounding, and lightning protection. Familiarity with IEC, IEEE, UL, NFPA, NEC, and other industry standards related to electrical engineering and lightning protection and grounding systems.
  • Knowledge and direct work experience in power system and lightning protection and grounding is a must.
  • Knowledge of FAA-STD-019 version G is mandatory. The ideal candidate will also have knowledge of FAA/DoD systems, technical policies, standards and orders.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate ability to independently review engineering drawings and design packages. 
  • Demonstrate ability to perform site survey, develop reports and scope of work, as well as coherent drawing packages.

  • Ability to work with other engineers in multidisciplinary engineering disciplines such as power systems, communications, RF, analog and digital systems.

Please Note:  100% remote role.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree and 4+ years of prior relevant experience OR Master’s degree with 2+ years of prior relevant experience.  Additional years of relevant experience may be considered and/or accepted in lieu of degree. 
  • Currently working with power systems, surge protection, lightning protection, and grounding experience.  Other electrical engineering discipline must have strong knowledge of the above subjects.
  • Previous experience with onsite project engineering with electrical and grounding systems, and customized quoting of Independent Government Cost Estimates (IGCEs) utilizing RS Means. 
  • Extensive knowledge and experience with AutoCad drafting in particular with compliance to FAA-STD-002.
  • Strong verbal communication and writing skills exhibited through project reports, proposals, or contract writing.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Security Clearance Suitability (To be eligible for Public Trust Security Clearance, one must be either a U.S. Citizen OR a U.S. Permanent Resident/Green Card holder who has resided in the U.S.A for the past 3 years of the past 5 years consecutively with no breaks).
  • Position requires approximately 25%.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of national/international/government standards and orders to include: NEC, grounding, lightning protection; i.e. NFPA 780 and FAA-STD-019. 
  • Familiarity with FAA NAS systems.
  • Knowledge and direct work experience in power system and lightning protection and grounding in FAA environment.

Pay Range:

Pay Range $81,250.00 - $146,875.00

The Leidos pay range for this job level is a general guideline only and not a guarantee of compensation or salary. Additional factors considered in extending an offer include (but are not limited to) responsibilities of the job, education, experience, knowledge, skills, and abilities, as well as internal equity, alignment with market data, applicable bargaining agreement (if any), or other law.
