Position Summary

The Lawyers Professional Liability Underwriter will be responsible for evaluating and underwriting professional liability insurance policies for law firms. This role involves assessing risk, determining coverage, and pricing terms, and ensuring compliance with company guidelines and industry regulations. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in underwriting lawyers’ professional liability, excellent analytical skills, and a keen eye for detail.

What will your job entail?

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review/analyze renewal business using our application process.
  • Analyze risk factors and determine appropriate coverage terms and pricing.
  • Review and assess loss history, application and various applicable supplements, and other relevant documents.
  • Collaborate with brokers and agents to gather necessary information.
  • Ensure compliance with company guidelines, industry regulations, and legal requirements.
  • Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers and agents.
  • Provide guidance and support to other team members.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, market conditions, and regulatory changes.
  • Prepare and present underwriting reports and recommendations to management.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree and/or 3-5 years of experience in lawyers professional liability underwriting.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in underwriting software and Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills.
  • Knowledge of industry regulations and compliance standards

Licenses & Certifications:

  • Professional designation as Registered Professional Liability Underwriter (RPLU) and/or Chartered Property Casualty Underwriter (CPCU) or in process with goal to complete a plus.
  • P&C License (or willingness to obtain within 90 days of date of hire)

The target salary range for this position is $68,200.00 - $75,000.00 annually.

The wage range for this role considers many factors, such as training, transferable skills, work experience, licensure and certification, business needs, and market demands. The pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. Full-time roles are eligible for bonuses and benefits.
