Product Owner with UX Design Experience 

Job Summary

As a Product Owner with a background in UX design, you will play a critical role in bridging the gap between business requirements and user needs.  You will work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure that the product not only meets functional requirements but also provides a seamless and intuitive user experience.  The Product Owner is a seasoned member of the Product Team that can support complex product solutions, leading multiple scrum teams and partnering across the product team to deliver value to the market through solution capabilities. This role may manage direct reports and/or serve as a functional area expert, developing and implementing best practices and collaborating with other Product leaders to improve the effectiveness of the broader Product organization. The Product Owner must have a deep understanding of the product from both the business and technical perspectives and the skills required to lead teams.

 

Primary Duties

  • Specific to their product area, the Product Owner’s responsibilities include delivery of high-quality epics and user stories, backlog prioritization and grooming, and sprint management for efficient and informed code delivery. This role owns the epic and user story backlog and is accountable for breaking down epics into user stories that are consumable and testable by a scrum team. They accept user stories as done at the end of the sprint and ultimately drive to code readiness for product release. They lead sprint activities such as the retrospective, demo, and planning sessions with Engineering team.
  • This role serves as a trusted partner with Engineering with the ability to articulate both internal and external needs. In collaboration with Product Management and Product Design, this role leverages 3rd party market research and solicits voice of customer input and user feedback to validate requirements, stories, and designs. This role connects business requirements and design criteria to technical requirements and ultimately breaks the work down into development increments that Engineering can deliver code against.
  • This role may involve direct management of Product Owners with responsibilities including performance management, coaching and development. In addition, they may also serve as functional expert, responsible for identifying and standardizing the organization around best practices and tool sets. This requires collaboration with Product and Engineering leaders to ensure processes and methodologies across the functions are cohesive and effective.
  • Utilize UX design tools such as Figma, Miro, and Balsamiq to create wireframes, prototypes, and user flow diagrams that effectively communicate design concepts and user journeys. (Preferred, but not required)  

 

Experience 

  • 3+ years prior working experience as Product Owner with some focus on UX design.
  • Proficiency in UX design tools such as Figma, Miro, and Balsamiq.
  • Strong ability to create user-centered designs that meet business objectives.  
  • 2+ years working in an Agile, Scaled Agile, Scrum environment or equivalent (e.g., user story writing, grooming backlogs, participating in Scrums, etc.)
  • 2+ years working in healthcare environment, including software solution delivery, implementation or maintenance
  • 2+ years working with Agile process management tools, including Jira and Confluence
  • 2+ years of working experience with Microsoft Office tools (MS Visio, MS Word, MS PowerPoint, etc.)

  • Technical and business aptitude enabling navigation across audiences
  • Familiarity with open-source Big Data technology stacks (Apache Nifi, Spark, Kafka, HBase, Hadoop/HDFS, Hive, Drill, Pig, etc.) or commercial open-source Big Data technology stacks (Hortonworks, Cloudera, etc.) Certified Scrum Product Owner (CSPO), Professional Scrum Product Owner (PSPO), SAFe Product Owner, or equivalent. (Preferred, but not required)
  • Familiarity with continuous delivery technologies (e.g. Puppet, Chef, Ansible, Docker, Vagrant, etc.)
  • Familiarity with build automation and continuous integration tools (e.g. Maven, Jenkins, Bamboo, etc.)

 

Education

  • Bachelors - Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field (Required)
  • Masters - Information Systems, Computer Science, Business Administration, or related field (Preferred)
