Product Engineer

San Francisco, CA

About this role

Pavilion is on a mission to reshape the public procurement landscape, a $2T/year endeavor. We're seeking an experienced Product Engineer with a passion for frontend technologies to join our tight-knit, dynamic engineering team of 10. We ship fast while supporting each other, don’t take ourselves too seriously, and always keep it fun and collaborative. Help us drive efficiency in government operations and create lasting social impact!

This is a full-time role based in San Francisco, CA. We enjoy working together in person and support a hybrid work environment: most of our team members spend 3 days in our San Francisco office and the other days working from home, with occasional longer stints working remotely. When we’re in the office, we eat lunch together, hang out at Thursday team socials, and occasionally do procurement-themed scavenger hunts.

What you will do:

  • Help build out the supplier side of Pavilion’s marketplace. You’ll collaborate with an experienced team of engineers, PMs, and designers to dream up and build high-impact features that help transform the process of government purchasing and improve public outcomes at scale.

  • Create delightful and performant UIs that improve the workflows of government buyers. Drive improvements to our core frontend technology, patterns, and best practices.

  • Work on thorny technical problems like entity resolution, AI explainability, and the cutting edge of semantic search using LLMs and vector DBs. Build zero-to-one features like supplier-first search and on-platform messaging.

  • Mentor team members, sharing your expertise and wisdom to uplift our collective skills and knowledge.

Who you are:

  • Experienced: A seasoned professional with over 3 years in software development across the stack. You’ve led multi-engineer projects and are comfortable giving technical direction to a small team.

  • Adept with our tech stack: Comfortable and competent with at least 1 year of professional experience in each of React and Python. Demonstrated fluency with one or more server-side frameworks (we use Django).

  • User-driven: Your approach is guided by user empathy, and you excel in designing intuitive interactions and user-friendly patterns.

  • Decisively impactful: You ship code quickly and scrappily, while maintaining a high quality bar, by making pragmatic technical choices and taking ownership of your work.

  • A team player: An effective communicator who values autonomy and eagerly contributes to our early-stage venture.

Pavilion’s compensation philosophy: Be generous with equity, meet needs with salary. We like to make our best offer to candidates up-front to promote fairness in compensation for all candidates.

  • Salary: The expected salary range for this position is $133k - $173k

  • Equity: We offer a higher than average equity package compared to companies in our stage
