Pay Range: $110,000 - $145,000

 

We are looking for a Process Safety Specialist to join our Performance Materials team to protect our people, plants, communities, and reputation from the hazards of our processes and products.

As a specialist in Process Safety, you will provide process safety expertise to safely carry out our operations by identifying and controlling the hazards of 1) the materials we handle, 2) the chemical processes we run, and 3) the physical equipment we use. By reviewing designs for new and existing processes, you will help ensure the safe design and on-going operation of our facilities, reducing the risk of accidents, injuries, and illnesses to our employees and our community.

 

One of your tasks will be to continually improve your technical competency in process safety and that of your colleagues involved with the design and operation of our facilities. This can be demonstrated by providing expert consultation on process safety issues, and developing and delivering specific process safety training content, courses, and seminars across the North America community.

Furthermore, you will be responsible for interpreting, communicating, and developing compliance strategies for BASF, federal, state and local requirements, including Responsible Care® activities, as they impact the operations of BASF and our customers and partners.

As a Process Safety Specialist, you create chemistry by...

  • Using your expertise in Process Safety to support management of change, process hazard analyses, and incident investigations processes, for both new projects and existing operations in Canada, Mexico and US, to ensure the safe, environmentally sound, and sustainable design and operation of BASF’s facilities.
  • Leveraging your education in Engineering or Science (professional certification in Engineering and/or Safety preferred) and your experience in the implementation of Process Safety programs, you will develop and implement programs to drive Process Safety excellence and safe operation of BASF’s chemical processing facilities in North America Performance Materials.
  • Sharing any experience you may have in manufacturing or direct manufacturing support roles with an understanding of chemical processing and technologies will be a valued asset as you provide incident investigation support as required, including analysis of incident root cause data, development of effective countermeasures to prevent recurrence, and communication of key lessons learned.
  • Being a subject matter expert, you will deliver specific Process Safety training for the community and provide feedback on technical content to those programs.
  • Providing your organizational and communication skills to identify, collect, and validate information necessary to effectively communicate to stakeholders within BASF. This includes capturing existing know-how, successfully demonstrated best practices, and technical expertise. Use of multiple communication platforms, including Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, etc.), is an essential key to success.  Familiarity with Stature, Change Manager, and RCAs is preferred.
  • Keeping abreast of the latest information, you will monitor changes in regulatory requirements and provide applicability analysis to Wyandotte facilities.  Familiarity with OSHA PSM and EPA RMP is preferred.

 

 

If you...

 

  • Possess a degree in Engineering or Science field.
  • Have a Professional certification in Engineering and/or Safety would be preferred.
  • Have experience in the implementation of Process Safety programs and in manufacturing or direct manufacturing support roles with an understanding of chemical processing and technologies.
  • Have excellent organizational and communication skills.
  • Are proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Are familiar with Stature, Change Manager, and RCA.
  • Have knowledge of OSHA PSM and EPA RMP (preferred)
