The Mortgage engineering team plays a crucial role in achieving our ambitious goals and delivering an exceptional customer experience. We are connectors, leaders, and dedicated collaborators, working together to streamline the real estate transaction process and create a delightful and trustworthy journey for our customers.

As part of the ZHL platform group, our team is responsible for developing and enabling ease of adoption of key Mortgage tech enablers of Tasks and workflows. These enablers power the mortgage domain's customer experience, operator tools, marketing, and analytics systems. We are backend developers who are transforming and designing innovative lending systems that will provide a unified experience for our various lines of business and bring joy to our customers.

About the role

As a Principal Backend Software Development Engineer, you’ll lead the delivery and ongoing support of projects from end-to-end. In addition, you will:

  • Contribute to the design of new features and future vision of ZHL.
  • Review the code and architectural ideas of your peers
  • Advocate for standard methodologies
  • Facilitate engineering discussions
  • Mentor engineers at all levels
  • Participate in an inclusive, energetic, and highly multi-functional team.

We leverage technology best suited for each use case, however, our teams typically use the following tech:

  • Go, Java, C#, Python, and NodeJS for our APIs and services
  • A range of persistence strategies including relational and non-relational databases
     

This role has been categorized as a Remote position. “Remote” employees do not have a permanent corporate office workplace and, instead, work from a physical location of their choice, which must be identified to the Company. U.S. employees may live in any of the 50 United States, with limited exceptions.

In California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC the standard base pay range for this role is $186,700.00 - $298,300.00 Annually. This base pay range is specific to California, Colorado, Connecticut, Hawaii, Illinois, Maryland, Minnesota, Nevada, New York, Washington state, and Washington DC and may not be applicable to other locations.

In addition to a competitive base salary this position is also eligible for equity awards based on factors such as experience, performance and location. Actual amounts will vary depending on experience, performance and location.

Who you are

  • 8+ years of software development experience with very high proficiency in Go, Java, Python, C#, NodeJS or other object-oriented languages suitable for writing back end web services.
  • Collaborate with engineers, product managers, program managers, and analysts on critically important projects
  • Find opportunities to promote and support existing ZHL processes
  • Passionate about engineering and distributed systems.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and passion for collaborating across organizational boundaries.
  • Comfortable distilling informal customer requirements into problem definitions, resolving ambiguity, and balancing ambitious objectives.
  • Passionate about mentorship, and coaching/onboarding/leading teammates.
  • A degree in Computer Science or a related technical field; or equivalent work experience
  • Experience in the Mortgage industry and familiarity with the tools and applications used
