Position Overview:

As a Principal Network and VMware Engineer for our data center, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining the network infrastructure, storage, and VMware environment to ensure optimal performance, reliability, and security. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to support the organization's data center operations and contribute to developing innovative solutions to meet evolving business needs.

Key Responsibilities:

 Network Infrastructure Management:

  • Design, implement, and maintain robust, scalable, and secure network architecture within the data center environment.
  • Configure and manage network devices, including routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, and other networking equipment.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and implement necessary adjustments to optimize performance and reliability.
  • Ensure compliance with industry best practices and security standards in network configuration and operations.

 VMware and storage Environment Administration:

  • Deploy, configure, and manage VMware virtualization infrastructure, including vSphere, vCenter, and ESXi hosts.
  • Monitor and optimize virtual machine performance, resource utilization, and capacity planning.
  • Implement backup and disaster recovery solutions for virtualized environments to ensure data integrity and availability.
  • Collaborate with other teams to integrate VMware infrastructure with storage, networking, and other systems.
  • Configure and manage storage systems as SAN/NAS arrays, ensuring optimal performance, capacity planning and data integrity.

Security and Compliance:

  • Implement and maintain security measures to protect the network and virtualized environments from unauthorized access, cyber threats, and data breaches.
  • Conduct regular security audits, vulnerability assessments, and penetration testing to identify and address security vulnerabilities.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulatory requirements and industry standards (e.g., PCI DSS, HIPAA, GDPR) pertaining to network and virtualization environments.

 

Project Management and Collaboration:

  • Lead and participate in cross-functional projects related to network infrastructure and VMware environment enhancements, upgrades, and migrations.
  • Collaborate with other teams, including systems administration, software development, and operations, to support business initiatives and project requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior team members and contribute to knowledge sharing within the organization.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
  • Extensive experience (10+ years) in network engineering, focusing on data center environments.
  • Strong expertise in VMware virtualization technologies, including vSphere, vCenter, vSAN, and ESXi.
  • Proficiency in network protocols, routing, switching, firewalls, TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLANs, VXLANs, SDN, and load balancers.
  • Experience with storage technologies such as SAN/NAS, Fiber Channel, iSCSI, and RAID configuration.
  • Hands-on experience with network security tools and technologies (e.g., IDS/IPS, SIEM, firewall management).
  • Familiarity with cloud computing platforms (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) and hybrid cloud environments is a plus.
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills with the ability to analyze complex network and virtualization issues and implement effective solutions.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.
  • Industry certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, VCP, or equivalent is highly desirable.

Additional Information:

  • This is a full-time remote position.
  • Occasional weekend or after-hours work may be required for network maintenance, upgrades, or incident response.
  • Willingness to travel to data center locations as needed (approximately 15% travel expected).

Compensation varies based on location and work being performed. The starting pay range for a candidate selected for this position is generally within the range of $140,000.00 - $230,000.00 for annual base salary. Employees may be eligible for additional discretionary bonuses and commissions. The successful candidate’s actual pay will also be based on qualifications and experience, so the actual starting pay may be above or below this range.
