Your role at Sephora:

As a Principal Engineer for the Sephora eCommerce Front-End Development Team, you will be evangelizing an ideal UI architecture – one that is focused on performance and that is scalable and maintainable. You will be acting as principal individual contributor with highly specialized knowledge in front end. Reporting to the Director, Front-End Architecture, you will work closely with extremely talented architects, leads and peers from cross functional teams and product managers supporting ongoing agile delivery by a diverse, distributed engineering organization. 

 

Responsibilities:

  • Architectural Vision, Leadership and Autonomy: Determines objectives and establishes unique approaches to assignments.  Lead the development and deployment of advanced front-end architectures, ensuring alignment with Sephora's strategic goals and business objectives. Be an integral member of a team focused on site performance, site security, and the planning and discovery process.
  • Strategic UI Planning: Formulate and drive comprehensive front-end strategies, focusing on scalability, resilience, and future growth. Architects’ services and systems using well accepted design patterns to allow for iterative, autonomous development and future scaling. Anticipates future use cases and makes design decisions that minimize the cost of future changes.
  • Performance Optimization and Complexity: Oversee continuous UI performance evaluations, implementing enhancements to maintain optimal performance, reliability, and availability. Expert who follows emerging Web front-end technologies with the maturity to know when/how to adopt them into an enterprise product for engaged and passionate clients. Works on issues that impact short term and long-term company success and future direction.
  • Security and Compliance: Establish and enforce rigorous security protocols and compliance standards, safeguarding Sephora’s front-end infrastructure. Fosters a security first mindset across teams, leading by example.
  • Technical Design Delivery: Produce high-quality architecture artifacts, including high-level designs, detailed roadmaps, and thorough test plans. Evangelize best practices and guide team members in applying them in a hands-on development environment. Reviews cross-team work critically and ensures it’s appropriately broken down and prioritized, and well understood by all involved teams. Anticipates and communicates blockers, delays, and cost ballooning across teams, before they require escalation. Ensures expectations across teams and stakeholders are clarified.
  • Cross-functional Collaboration and Communication: Collaborate seamlessly with various technical and business teams and interacts with key decision makers inside the company and may interact with key leaders from external organizations, translating complex business requirements into robust technical solutions. Collaborate with teams to drive core programmatic design decisions and apply modern web frameworks on top of an existing highly scalable and flexible back end. Works to build and improve strong relationships with engineers and managers across the organization as well as relevant business stakeholders for several teams. Leverages relationships to better plan for and position those teams.

 

We’re excited about you if you have:

  • 12+ years experience with client-side technologies like JavaScript, ReactJs, NodeJs, ES6, HTML/HTML5, CSS (Sass/Less/Styled-System), XHR, REST, Microservcie APIs.
  • 12+ years experience with JavaScript prominent libraries and frameworks React, Redux, Angular, Underscore, etc.
  • 8+ years experience with Agile or Scrum processes and Site Architecture
  • Experience with Tools Webpack, Grunt, npm, etc.
  • Cross-browser compatibility, unit testing (Jest, Jasmine, Enzyme, etc), performance optimization, and best practices for overall website performance vitals.
  • Knowledge of Site Functionality. Significant experience in architecting and designing solutions that utilize software and client-side design best practices.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to communicate findings to all levels of the organization.
  • Team Management and Leadership of cross-functional projects experience.
  • Knowledge in e-commerce applications is desired but not necessary. 

 

The annual base salary range for this position is $156,150.00 - $192,900.00 The actual base salary offered depends on a variety of factors, which may include, as applicable, the applicant’s qualifications for the position; years of relevant experience; specific and unique skills; level of education attained; certifications or other professional licenses held; other legitimate, non-discriminatory business factors specific to the position; and the geographic location in which the applicant lives and/or from which they will perform the job.  Individuals employed in this position may also be eligible to earn bonuses.  Sephora offers a generous benefits package to full-time employees, which includes comprehensive health, dental and vision plans; a superior 401(k) plan, various paid time off programs; employee discount/perks; life insurance; disability insurance; flexible spending accounts; and an employee referral bonus program.
