Principal Data Analyst

C.H. Robinson is seeking a Principal Data Analyst to join our Intermodal (IMDL) Advanced Analytics team. The Principal Data Analyst role will leverage business and technical knowledge to develop new and innovative analytical solutions in the form of applications, reporting, dashboards, and implementing other processes/tools. This role will be accountable for product prototyping, using the Agile process to create applications which serve a research and development purpose. Additionally, this role will use established best practices to verify insights for leadership and will conduct exploratory work pertaining to upcoming and/or ongoing product development. The Principal Data Analyst will act as a mentor to team members and serve as a subject matter expert (SME) for IMDL stakeholders and other individuals within the organization, providing valuable insights and analysis. The Principal Data Analyst will work collaboratively with Data Science and other individuals within the enterprise to scale Intermodal Advanced Analytics by utilizing and integrating into organizational tools and technology.
This role can be based in Minnesota, Chicago or Kansas City.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
The duties and responsibilities of this position consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
- Data profiling, exploratory work, prototyping, visual development, initial data structuring
- Builds initial application prototypes rapidly and accurately
- Adapts applications based on feedback
- Domain buildout, validation, and rework
- Updates and maintains standard library of visualization packages and reporting for future prototyping
- Using agile processes, takes in reviewed work through work management tools such as Jira, ServiceNow, ZenHub or Azure DevOps (ADO) boards
- Extracts and interprets data to answer ambiguous questions while working directly with personnel across the network
- Determines reporting and additional analysis to support initiatives and measurement
- Utilize data integration techniques to organize and analyze data
- Proactively analyzes topics, identifies and creates recommendations supported by facts to change behaviors, including specific operational improvements to the team and the business in general
- Clearly translates and communicates complex concepts into understandable, professional presentations
- Performs quality assurance testing of reports and dashboards, including UAT as appropriate
- Consults, supports and informs leadership and/or customers using data driven insights
- Presents and delivers analytical value through business intelligence and collaboration
- Networks by building relationships and consulting to bring solutions to life
- Collaborates with internal analytical teams to develop predictive solutions in tandem
- Understands existing reports, and develops additional custom reports using business knowledge
- Influences on other reports being built, may be a SME to help guide new report creation
- Develop and execute SQL database queries and conduct analyses
- Develop and maintain technical documentation
- Other duties or responsibilities as assigned according to the team and/or country specific requirements
Required Qualifications:
- 6+years of previous analytics experience developing business solutions using comprehensive, robust data assets
- Expert knowledge of Microsoft Power BI, and mastery proficiency with the broader Microsoft Power Platform Suite of programs (Power Apps, Power Automate)
- Mastery understanding of data fundamentals, SQL Querying, and passion for data integrity, testing, and validation
- Expert knowledge and practical application of a programming language such as Python and/or R
- 5+ years’ experience with SQL
- Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience and a high school diploma/GED
Preferred Qualifications:
- Analytics or supply chain degree
- Basic to Intermediate Statistical knowledge (regression, clustering, decision trees, etc.)
- Intermediate to advanced understanding of Big Data solutions and concepts (Azure, Postgres, Hadoop, NoSQL, MPP, ETL etc.)
- Basic understanding of HTML, Javascript/D3
- T Advanced Computer Science, Analytics or supply chain degree
- C.H. Robinson business experience or 3PL Intermodal industry experience
- Expert proficiency with T-SQL and/or H-SQL
- Expert leveraging statistical methodologies to deliver actionable insights (regression analysis, clustering and/or tree models)
- Experience using advanced third-party analytical tools (QlikView, Tableau, PowerBI)
- Organized individual with strong self and project management disciplines, including the ability to lead, facilitate, and influence
- Proven ability to think creatively to develop a data model or perspective to answer challenging business problems or scenarios
- Effective communicator and data/reporting/business liaison through multiple mediums
- Experience working with product and other teams in an iterative/collaborative environment
- Creates comfortable, open-minded conversations with those who seek information, guidance or analytical collaboration
- A willing teacher/mentor who also responds positively to feedback from leaders and colleagues

Compensation Range
$75,900.00 - $168,500.00The base pay range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum base pay for the position across all U.S. locations. Your individual base pay within this range is determined by work location, which takes into account geographic cost of labor, and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Compensation details listed in this posting reflect the base pay only and do not include additional variable compensation.
