The Infrastructure Engineering team’s mission is to provide the cloud native infrastructure, automation and tools that enable teams across Toast to deliver products in a safe, secure and agile manner, with minimal operational dependencies.

As a Principal Cloud Engineer, you will be responsible for platform architecture and providing the automation and implementation for landing zones as well as network and security infrastructure for new AWS regions. You are passionate about the cloud, Software Defined Networks, highly available, scalable and secure systems infrastructure.

 

About this roll* (Responsibilities) 

  • Reports to the Manager of Cloud and Network Infrastructure Engineering focusing on software defined networks, cloud landing zones, VPC buildouts, cloud security, application and network firewalls, as well as ingress and egress control.
  • Focus on design and implementation of software defined networks, cloud landing zones and VPCs, cloud security, application and network firewalls, as well as ingress and egress control for security and PCI compliant networks.
  • Is a technical leader and cloud architect (platform engineering)
  • Collaborates with product with an internal customer self service mindset 
  • Collaborates closely with other platform engineering teams

 

Do you have the right ingredients*? (Requirements)

  • Experience designing, building and operating large scale automated cloud services in multiple zones and regions in AWS or other public clouds
  • Hands-on experience with IaC (Terraform, Cloudformation), platform control planes (Kubernetes API and Operators)
  • Hands-on experience building internal and edge network infrastructure in cloud environments, at Layer 3, 4 and 7, DNS, BGP, TGW, VPC Peering, ALB, VPN etc…
  • Hands-on experience building and managing systems with Container Orchestration platforms like ECS or Kubernetes, as well as service mesh (Istio, Envoy, etc…)
  • Hands-on experience with edge/CDN networking products (Cloudflare, Cloudfront, Fastly, etc…)
  • Deep experience with cloud native systems infrastructure, applications and micro service architecture
  • The ability to influence and lead teams executing and making technical decisions within a larger organization
  • Collaborate with the Chief Architect and Software Systems Architects
  • A strong sense of empathy for internal engineering teams and teammates
  • Bonus - software and tool development with Go
  • 15+ years of experience developing and operating distributed systems
