The vertical Public Relations/Communications team is responsible for building the NerdWallet brand with our media partners and building our share of voice across financial categories. A Level 3 Public Relations associate will help support our current PR lead with execution of our strategy for the Consumer Credit organization (credit cards, travel, lending and insurance) focusing heavily on media relations, focusing heavily on media relations, executing against our PR playbook and performance monitoring.

We are seeking a motivated PR associate that can make a significant impact on our current businesses including the Consumer Credit business (credit cards, travel, lending and insurance), Wealth and Small & Medium Businesses. A successful candidate has strong media relations skills and is passionate about identifying new opportunities to position NerdWallet and its spokespeople as a trusted financial source. You are able to develop and maintain key relationships with media, as well as identify proactive pitching opportunities. You are an analytical thinker and are able to understand the competitive and media landscape in order to identify new media opportunities. You are a strong collaborator who is able to work effectively with the PR/Communications team as well as cross-functional partners and spokespeople to deliver and execute against our Public Relations goals, with guidance and support from your manager. You are a strong contributor and team player. You are flexible and willing to support the team on new programs and projects. You are able to work with your manager to prioritize and execute multiple projects.

Where you can make an impact: 

  • Conduct thorough research and analysis to understand the competitive and media landscape of the business you support (credit cards, travel, lending and insurance), as well as the overall personal finance space
  • Leverage industry insights to effectively execute against a media strategy and support the development of new PR ideas
  • Execute against the existing PR playbook and contribute with the development of new media strategies
  • Leverage strong media expertise to generate unique pitch ideas, develop media materials (key messages, briefing documents and media lists), and prepare spokespeople interviews
  • Build strong media relationships to understand reporter and publication interest, conduct media outreach and secure relevant coverage
  • Monitor and track coverage, managing the media performance of the business you support
  • Develop and foster strong internal relationships with cross-functional partners, including spokespeople, content leads and data writers
