Position Overview: We are seeking a Postdoctoral Fellow that is passionate about advancing the predictive capability of in vitro drug absorption models to join the Exploratory Biopharmaceutics group within Pharmaceutical Sciences and Clinical Supply at our company's Research Laboratories in Rahway, New Jersey. 
The successful postdoctoral fellow will develop conventional and complex in vitro models (e.g. Transwell inserts and Gut-on-a-chip respectively) to study drug absorption and drug delivery systems and improve the in vivo prediction from these models using physiological-relevant materials and/or data modeling. The postdoctoral fellow will work in close collaboration with pharmaceutical scientists and our analytical chemistry colleagues at our company. This fellowship intends to focus on developing the candidates scientific and professional development and is intended to last for 3 years.    


Responsibilities include but are not limited to: 
•    Conduct research under mentorship of the Exploratory Biopharmaceutics team involving: cell culture, transport studies, transporter inhibition studies, molecular biology techniques, microscopy, and data modeling. 
•    Willingness to troubleshoot and problem solve complex transport phenomena in cellular models and carry out analysis using LC, LC-MS, and complementary techniques. 
•    Collaboration with our company's colleagues in Oral Formulation Sciences, Discovery Pharmaceutical Sciences, Analytical Research & Development, Exploratory Science Center, and our company's 3D Technologies.
•    Active participation in department and group meetings, and postdoctoral program trainings and meetings. 
•    Continued development of your science communication skills through: literature reviews, manuscript authoring, internal and external conference attendance.


Education Minimum Requirement:  
•    PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Physiology, Pharmacology, Bioengineering, Chemical Engineering (Biological focus), Drug Delivery, or related field or completing a PhD by May 2025.

Required Experience and Skills: 

  • Experience in human epithelial cell culture models for drug absorption studies or assessing drug delivery systems

  • Experience with biochemical assays such as MTT, LDH, ELISA etc. 

  • Experience in microscopy such as immunofluorescence microscopy

  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively

  • Strong written and oral communication skills

Preferred Experience and Skills: 

  • Experience in culturing and expanding 3D organoids (iPSC-, ESC-, or Biopsy-derived)

  • Experience with quantitative methods such as HPLC, LC, LC-MS etc.

  • Familiarity with microfluidic systems (e.g. organ-on-a-chip)

  • Experience in transport studies across epithelial membranes

  • Knowledge of intestinal biology

Under New York City, Colorado State, Washington State, and California State law, the Company is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the salary range for this job. Final determinations with respect to salary will take into account a number of factors, which may include, but not be limited to the primary work location and the chosen candidate’s relevant skills, experience, and education.

Expected salary range:

$75,000.00-$86,000.00
