Purpose of Position
The Department of Physics and Astrophysics is seeking to hire a post-doctoral research fellows to conduct experimental research on “Epitaxial Growth of VN on Si3N4/Si(111)” starting date June 1, 2025. The initial appointment will be for one year, pending annual review of performance and continued availability of funding. The researcher will work directly with Dr. Deniz Cakir and Dr. Nuri Oncel and will help train PhD students.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Training PhD students.
- Conducting experiments on VN growth on Si₃N₄/Si substrates and characterizing the resulting samples.
Required Competencies
- The ability to teach, inspire, and mentor students
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Minimum Requirements
- PhD in Physics or in a closely related field
- Demonstrated record of peer-reviewed publications on thin film growth and characterization
- Successful completion of a Criminal History Background Check

Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in using Molecular Beam Epitaxy to grow nitride films.
- Experience in Device characterization
- Experience with E-Beam and/or laser lithography
- Good publication record
