People Experience Lead

The People Experience Lead plays an essential role in guiding and advising staff on their resources, solving employee issues and providing objective resolutions, ensuring proper interpretation and fair application of employment policies, and navigating complex employment situations. Your core RESPONSIBILITIES will include:
- Coach and support the growth and development of the People Experience Specialists through hands-on mentoring, feedback and training.
- Updating and maintaining policies and procedures in alignment with local legal standards and compliance.
- Guide and coach the People Experience Specialists with escalated complex employee relation matters including performance management, workplace investigations and employee conflict.
- Manage and resolve performance and employee relations challenges, separations, terminations and leaves across the many business areas in North America
- Utilise employment law to provide expert HR advice, that meets the Lush People led approach.
- Participate and support the management, execution and completion of annual projects.
- Maintain processes that uphold Lush employment policies, culture and values
- Lift up employee feedback or concerns to the appropriate teams and plan for resolution including facilitating dialogue, mediation and roundtables
- Partner with other teams to collate employee feedback and identify themes to address and make change.
- Support People Experience Manager with management and resolution of all litigation, mediation and legal claims in North America
- Collaborate with People Partners to launch initiatives, streamline communication, and address engagement issues.
- Objectively assess escalated complaints and determine the proper protocol. Involve the right people at the right time and report back on results.
- Assist with analysing ER data to identify themes, trends and insights to address opportunities to improve the employee experience
- Support the development of quarterly people audits
- Support employee relations efforts to:
- Promote wellbeing resources provided through our third-party vendors, ensure staff are taking advantage of available programs and work with the benefits team to improve metrics.
- Provide expert knowledge of emergency protocol, safety procedures, and incident response; responsible for coordination of efforts and involvement of the right teams at the right times.
- Aid the return-to-work process for employees who’ve taken leave, act as liaison between the benefits team, employee and manager to ensure a smooth transition.
- Support staff and managers in time and attendance best practices, including following break and meal rules, availability and scheduling agreements, and time off and leave requests.
- Expert knowledge of policies and procedures and consistent referencing of them in your work with employees.
- Expert knowledge of current Lush events and changes that may impact staff and ability to interpret company information and share the correct resources.
- Expert knowledge in policies, operations, benefits, time and attendance, compensation and people practices.
You bring the following QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
- 3-5 years direct employee relations experience
- 3-5 years’ experience in retail, manufacturing and or corporate HR functions
- Proven experience supervising and developing a team
- Senior Level experience working on employee complaints, time and attendance issues, leaves and application of policy
- Proficient in local employment laws and application of respective law to everyday people practices
- Experience in developing & maintaining strong people practices/programs across multiple business areas
- Demonstrated experience and knowledge of coaching, mediation and investigation best practices
- Ability to analyze people problems, collaborate on solutions and implement plans
- Ability to build relationships, trust, and manage complex team dynamics through mediations, facilitation, coaching and performance plans
- Excellent listening and communication skills
- Excellent analytical, critical thinking and troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent organization and time management skills
- Proficient in excel, Microsoft suit, and adaptable to other systems as required
- Ability to travel up to 20% to shops, Vancouver, or Toronto for work and meetings.
Preferred:
- Location: Open to remote applicants. US is preferred.
- HR coursework, degree or certification a plus
- Experience in cross cultural collaboration and DEIB or social justice training
- Fluency in Spanish, French or other languages
