Payroll Manager

The Payroll Manager is responsible for leading and participating in all aspects of Business Wire payroll on a world-wide basis. This is a working manager role where the manager will lead a small team in the processing of world-wide payroll and related reporting. This position focuses on handling administrative and tactical tasks, with strategic ownership of global payroll practices. Our ideal candidate is detail-oriented, hands-on, and methodical, with experience in payroll administration and deep knowledge of payroll regulations particularly US Federal and State. What You Will Do

  • Leads and participates in all aspects of domestic payroll processes and ensures that payroll information is collected and transmitted efficiently and accurately on an ongoing basis. Tasks include benefits and salary-related payroll adjustments such as garnishments, tax withholding, disability/unemployment/worker’s comp wage inquiries, regular updates to general ledger, tax law changes, and other payroll-related responsibilities, as necessary.
  • Responsible for all aspects of international payroll including interfacing with People and Culture, Corporate Accounting, and in-country third party accountants.
  • Responsible for efficient and accurate collection of all employee information and establishes necessary HR records, including payroll records and IT system setup.
  • Ensures that record-keeping complies with appropriate regulatory requirements.
  • Leads payroll staff which is responsible for administration of global payroll functionalities, Third-Party vendors, and Allotments.
  • Collaborate on payroll-related projects and initiatives; implement ongoing process improvements and better business practices to deliver quality customer service.
  • Ensure global payroll is processed in an accurate and timely manner while accounting for the funding of all payroll deductions to third parties and tax authorities.
  • Ensure appropriate payroll controls and backup systems are in place.
  • Serves as a back-up on all detail payroll functions.
  • Build strong cross functional business partner relationships throughout the organization (esp. Accounting and People and Culture) and externally. 

What You Will Need

  • Must have proven experience leading a full-cycle payroll team as well as Tier-1 full-cycle firsthand experience in a fluid environment that includes numerous complexities such as 24 x 7 shift differentials and work from home on a world-wide basis.
  • Candidate must be willing to be a hands-on team member.
  • Must have experience on a Tier-1 payroll system, ideally ADP and/or Workday.
  • Must have a CPP (Certified Payroll Professional) designation.
  • Experience with Workday Payroll Module with an ADP interface highly desirable.
  • Bachelors in business or accounting highly desirable.
  • Must possess knowledge of laws and regulations relating to wages, benefits, and other employment matters.
  • Must be able to multi-task and prioritize responsibilities efficiently.
  • Must be “customer service” focused and demonstrate an ongoing desire to improve HR processes.
  • Must demonstrate critical thinking skills and identify strengths and weaknesses with payroll and benefits administration and help provide alternative solutions to problems.
  • Must demonstrate an ability to manage payroll matters with discretion, sensitivity, and business sensibility.
  • Moderate level of experience with Microsoft Excel required (Pivot tables, VLOOKUP, etc.)

  • The base salary range for this position is $115K to $125K.  Offered salary will be determined by several factors, including but not limited to: applicant’s education, experience, knowledge, skills and abilities, as well as internal equity and alignment with geographic market data.  Business Wire reserves the right to modify this salary range at any time.
