The Department of Insurance and Financial Institutions licenses, monitors, investigates, examines, and ensures the safety and soundness of, regulated entities. The Department also helps resolve consumer complaints against financial-services and insurance entities; takes action in response to violations of law; encourages competition, innovation, and economic development; collects taxes and assessments that support State government operations; combats auto theft and insurance fraud through public awareness campaigns, and funding for law enforcement and dedicated prosecutors.
Our mission is to help Arizonans receive the benefits and protections to which they are legally entitled by enforcing insurance and financial institution laws and by providing information and assistance and to combat vehicle theft.

Job Summary:This position serves as a Legal Assistant within the Department's Enforcement, Innovation, and Regulatory Policy Division. It provides high-level paralegal/secretarial support to the Regulatory Legal Affairs Officer and Unit Project Specialist.
This position will prepare documents and various legal correspondence, coordinate court meetings, and collaborate with other agency units.
Job Duties:• Document Preparation and Case Management: Timely and accurate preparation/drafting and review of a variety of reports, notices, forms, pleadings, and other legal correspondence. Accurate maintenance of case records and files, including organizing, redacting, and handling voluminous documents
• Scheduling and Coordination: Calendar court hearings, deadlines, and meetings, and conduct follow-up activities both internally and with outside parties
• Quality Control and Cross-Unit Collaboration: Review outgoing material for consistency, grammar, and completeness of legal documents. Conduct case intake and initial investigative steps, and coordinate with various units within the agency such as licensing, administrative enforcement, consumer services, and financial enterprises divisions
• Other duties as assigned as related to the position
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (KSAs):Knowledge:
• Use of statutes, codes and other legal resources; methods, techniques, and principles for legal writing
• Extensive knowledge of administrative court procedures and applicable time-frames
• Knowledge of legal terminology and legal forms
• Knowledge of service of process procedures
Skills:
• Skilled in researching and extracting information from statutes, codes, legal documents and court decisions
• Excellent written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills
• Strong analytical and organizational skills
Ability:
• Proper use and application of information from legal sources; ability to elicit information in a legal investigation; write legal documents; establish and maintain relationships with representatives of the courts and government entities
• Work well in a challenging and fast-paced environment, respond well to changing priorities and regularly demonstrate a professional, positive, and supportive attitude
• Ability to read and interpret State, Federal, and local codes, laws and regulations in order to prepare reports or apply in work activities
• Ability to organize, prioritize, and perform varied tasks and track multiple deadlines simultaneously
• Ability to track court actions
• Associate degree in paralegal studies or a paralegal certificate
• Knowledge of administrative court procedures
Pre-Employment Requirements:• Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records and must complete any required driver training (see Arizona Administrative Code R2-10-207.12.)
• Requires possession of and ability to retain a current, valid state-issued driver’s license appropriate to the assignment
