The Outside Sales Representative-Both Lawn & Garden and Grower Upper Midwest Divisions manages a territory sales plan focused on meeting existing customer needs, developing new customer relationships, and executing on market growth strategies in the commercial greenhouse and nursery markets, as well as the lawn & garden sector. It is about a 50/50 split.

 *Green Industry experience highly preferred.


Compensation Data: Exempt base salary $50k+ based on experience, plus commission.

Travel: Assigned territory and special events as required

Sales Region: Upper Midwest (the successful candidate must live within their assigned territory)


Key Responsibilities:

1. Manages and grows the designated territory by exhibiting a comprehensive knowledge of the industry, the customer’s business needs, product capabilities and solutions.

2. Identifies potential new customers through various channels, prepares sales materials and arranges meetings to introduce the company, its portfolio of products and available services.

3. Keeps customers informed of market trends and associated product offerings. 

4. Serves as a profitability resource to customers by identifying and suggesting ways to reduce cost, increase profitability, or expand growing space. 

5. Submits and processes orders to meet customer delivery expectations, ensuring customers receive the products or services they require and within the anticipated period.

6. Provides effective follow-up contact with customers. Assesses the customer’s satisfaction with the product and service provided. Works with internal departments to resolve customer issues promptly.

7. Participates in ongoing training and workshops and attends networking events, trade shows and company sales meetings to expand market and product knowledge.

8. Analyzes sales data and prepares reports on territory performance and potential. Provides feedback in support of sales initiatives to management and marketing departments.


What you will need to succeed:


Education & Qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in horticulture, business, marketing or similar field preferred.

· 2-3 years of proven sales experience as an outside sales representative preferred.

· 2-3 years of experience in the horticultural industry preferred.


Competencies:

· Strong customer service mentality essential.

· Ability to learn and apply diverse customer, vendor, or third-party requirements.

· Ability to learn and apply knowledge of products and make recommendations.

· Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with customers.

· Intermediate to advanced ability to navigate technology and utilize MS Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint).
